What is RenterConnect?

RenterConnect is a secure platform that allows landlords and property management companies to access an applicant’s rental payment history. By integrating with your rental portal, RenterConnect provides a streamlined, transparent way for you to share your rental data with potential landlords, helping to simplify the application process.

When you grant permission, RenterConnect fetches your rent payment records, which can include payment history, lease status, and any outstanding balances. This information helps landlords make informed decisions based on verified rental data.

How does RenterConnect work?

RenterConnect works by securely accessing your rental payment history through your existing rent portal. Here’s how the process works:

  1. Landlord Request: A landlord or property management company sends you an invitation through RenterConnect, requesting access to your rental data.

  2. Grant Permission: You log into your rent portal through RenterConnect and grant permission for your rental information to be accessed.

  3. Secure Data Transfer: RenterConnect retrieves your rental payment history and securely transfers it to the landlord. This may include payment history, current balances, and lease status.

  4. One-Time Data Pull: RenterConnect only pulls your data once, ensuring that your information is used solely for the rental application process.

All data transfers are encrypted, and your credentials are protected throughout the process.

How does RenterConnect connect to my portal?

RenterConnect connects to your rent portal through secure integrations with property management systems. Here’s how it works:

  • Step 1: RenterConnect validates your login credentials to ensure you are an authorized user of the portal.

  • Step 2: RenterConnect fetches your rental payment history through its network of property management system (PMS) integrations.

  • Step 3: Your information is securely transferred to your prospective landlord or property management company using top-tier encryption.

RenterConnect ensures that your information is only shared with authorized parties, such as prospective landlords, and is protected throughout the process with top-tier encryption.

How do I know if I have a portal?

If you regularly log in to pay rent through a website or app, you likely have a rent portal. You can usually find your portal’s name by checking your rent payment confirmation emails or asking your property manager or landlord directly.

For example, if your landlord uses a specific platform, you’ll see the platform name in the emails you receive when rent is due or paid.

Alternatively, if you pay rent through a specific website (e.g., a resident portal for a property management company), you can try logging in there or check the footer of your rental payment page for branding or logos to determine which portal you’re using.

I'm using a portal that isn't listed.

If your rent portal isn’t listed in RenterConnect, it’s possible that we don’t yet support integration with that platform.

Please contact our support team at support@renterconnect.ai to notify us of your portal so we can explore future integrations.

I’m sure my credentials are correct but I’m getting an error.

If you’re confident that your login details are correct but still experiencing an error, there could be a few reasons for this:

  • Double-check for typos in your username or password.

  • Make sure your caps lock isn’t on when entering your password.

  • Ensure that your portal hasn’t changed or updated its login system.

If the issue persists, reach out to our support team for assistance.

I don’t remember my credentials.

If you’ve forgotten your rent portal username or password, follow these steps to recover your credentials:

  1. Visit the Portal’s Login Page:

Most portals have a “Forgot Password” or “Forgot Username” option on their login page. Simply click on the appropriate link and follow the instructions to reset your credentials.

  2. Check Your Previous Rent Payment Confirmation Emails:

If you’re unsure which portal you use, look for any previous rent payment confirmation emails, which should contain the portal name and details.

  3. Contact Your Property Manager or Landlord:

If you cannot find the “Forgot Password” or “Forgot Username” options or need additional assistance, reach out to your property manager or landlord.

  4. Return to RenterConnect to Complete Your Connection:

Once you’ve reset your credentials, return to RenterConnect to complete the account linking process and authorize RenterConnect to share your rental data.

How does RenterConnect access my information?

RenterConnect securely accesses your rental data via integrations with property management software. When you log into your portal through RenterConnect, you are authorizing us to retrieve your rent payment records and share them with your potential landlord.

Rest assured, your information is only transferred with your permission, and we do not store your credentials.

I don’t want to share my information, do I have to?

You are in full control and can choose not to share your rental information. However, keep in mind that the landlord or property management company you’re applying to may require this information to complete your application.

Sharing your rental payment history through RenterConnect can help expedite your application and improve your chances of approval by providing the landlord with verifiable rental data.

Can I delete my rental information from RenterConnect?

RenterConnect performs a one-time data pull from your rent portal when you grant access, meaning we do not maintain long-term access to your portal after that. Since there are no long-lived permissions, there is no need to revoke access.

If you wish to delete the rental information that was pulled, you can submit a request to have your data removed from our systems. Please contact our support team at support@renterconnect.ai to initiate the deletion process.

Keep in mind that while RenterConnect can delete the data stored in our system, we cannot ensure whether a property management company or landlord has already downloaded or saved the information for their own use.
