Stop sending the generic invoice email just because customizing each one takes too long. Invoice Templates & Automation lets you set your own send and reminder copy once, use it as the default on every send, then optionally turn on follow-ups that go out on their own.

Invoice Templates & Automation Setup
Navigate to Settings > Client Communications > Templates & Automations
Click on Invoice Templates
Edit the Invoice Send and Invoice Reminder email templates (subject + body, insert variables, preview). When finished, click Save.
Optionally turn Automatically Send Reminders ON and click Customize to set the cadence (days after the invoice is sent).
⚠️ Automation starts off — flipping it on is what starts automated follow-ups
When you send or remind an invoice, the compose screen starts from your saved templates. Send as-is from the initial modal, or Customize messages first.
If the account has Verified SMS: you can also edit text templates on the same page, set a default channel (Email stays the default), and choose Email, Text, or Email + Text at send time. The text includes a tappable invoice link.
💡 If SMS isn’t set up yet: Settings > Client Communications > SMS Notifications > Set Up
What you’ll notice in the workflow
Send and remind use your saved copy instead of the generic system message. Set it once; it becomes the default. You can still edit a single message before it goes out.
Automated reminders use the same method as the original send. An invoice sent by email is reminded by email. An invoice sent by text is reminded by text.
Reminders stop when the invoice is paid. Turning automation off stops new schedules; it does not stop invoices already scheduled.
Manual Remind still works. Automation does not replace one-off or bulk reminders.
SMS accounts: Text is sent to the invoice billing contact. If that person isn’t opted in for SMS, LMN emails that same contact — it does not switch to someone else.
Batch send/remind evaluates each invoice on its own. Mixed results (one by text, one by email) are expected.
Limitations
One default template set for the whole account. Different copy by invoice type, division, or residential vs commercial is not in this launch.
Automation schedules invoices sent after you turn it on. It does not backfill reminders onto invoices already outstanding.
Text options only appear with Verified SMS. You cannot type in a one-off phone number — the billing contact must already have an opted-in mobile number.
Clients cannot reply to the invoice text in this release. Crew / mobile invoice-by-text is not included.
There is no extra charge. Texting uses the existing SMS package. Don’t push high-volume email accounts onto Email + Text yet.
FAQs
Who can use Invoice Templates & Automation?
Everyone at GA (October 14): saved invoice email templates and reminder automation. Text / Email + Text is only for accounts with Verified SMS and a billing contact who is opted in. Accounts without SMS still get the email templates and automation — they just won’t see Text options.
Why don’t I see Invoice Templates under Templates & Automations?
Before GA, the account needs the feature turned on (Alpha / Early Access). After GA it should appear for all accounts. The old Email Templates landing page is not where invoice copy is managed.
Why don’t I see Text or Email + Text when sending an invoice?
Check, in order: feature enabled → Verified SMS → billing contact has an opted-in mobile number. Missing or opted-out numbers fall back to that contact’s email. Email send still works.
Does turning automation on send reminders for invoices we already sent?
No. Reminders are scheduled when an invoice is sent while automation is on. Outstanding invoices from before you flipped the toggle are not backfilled. Automation defaults to off.
Do reminders go by text too?
Yes, if the invoice was originally sent by Text or Email + Text. Automated reminders store that method and use it when they fire — they do not switch to whatever the default channel is now. If the number is opted out or undeliverable, the reminder falls back to that contact’s email. Reminders stop when the invoice is paid.
Who receives the invoice text?
The billing contact on the invoice. Opted-out numbers and contacts with no eligible phone get email instead — LMN does not text a different person on the job.
Do we have to edit the email every time we send an invoice?
No. Today most accounts just send the generic system message because customizing each invoice isn’t worth the time. Save your wording on Invoice Templates once — that’s now the default for every send and remind. Use Customize messages only when a single invoice needs different copy.
Can we have different invoice emails for commercial vs residential, or by invoice type?
Not in this launch. One send template and one reminder template for the whole account. Per-type or per-division templates are a follow-up.
Does this replace sending reminders by hand?
No. Manual Remind (single and batch) still works. Automation is the set-and-forget path for invoices sent after you turn it on.
Does this include two-way texting or Crew / mobile invoice send?
No. Clients cannot reply to the invoice text in this release. Crew / mobile invoice-by-text is not in this launch.
Is there an extra charge?
No new cost. Email templates and automation are included. Invoice texts use the existing SMS package. Talking point: don’t push high-volume email accounts onto Email + Text; focus texting on accounts that already have SMS.
