Quick fixes (try these first)
Open the Love to Ride app before your next ride and leave it in the background (don’t force close it).
Restart your phone if you’ve just changed settings or updated your OS.
Check your location permissions—make sure they’re set to Always/Allow all the time with Precise/High accuracy turned on.
Turn off battery saving modes while you’re out riding.
💡 Tip: After you make changes, take a short test ride (5–10 minutes) to confirm auto logging is working again.

🍏 Apple phones
Auto‑logging needs motion and location services to keep running in the background. Here’s what to check:
1) Low Power Mode
Why it matters: Low Power Mode can pause or limit background updates. How to check:
Go to Settings → Battery → Low Power Mode
Make sure it’s OFF while you’re riding.
2) Background App Refresh
Why it matters: This lets Love to Ride stay active in the background. How to check:
How to check:
Settings → General → Background App Refresh
Choose Wi‑Fi & Mobile Data
Check that Love to Ride is switched on.
3) Location Permissions (Always + Precise)
Why it matters: Without Always + Precise, rides may be missed. How to check:
Settings → Love to Ride → Location
Set to Always and switch Precise Location ON
4) Focus Modes (Driving, Sleep, Custom)
Why it matters: Focus Modes can block background activity. How to check:
Settings → Focus → [Your Focus] → Apps
Make sure Love to Ride is allowed.
5) Always‑On Display (iPhone 14 Pro & newer)
Why it matters: Sometimes the Always‑On display delays updates when idle. What to try:
Settings → Display & Brightness → Always On Display → Turn it OFF if needed
Or unlock your iPhone briefly before you ride
Other helpful tips (iOS)
Keep Love to Ride open in the background (don’t swipe it away).
Restart your iPhone after major iOS updates or permission changes.
If problems continue, reinstall the app to refresh permissions.
🤖 Android phones
Every Android brand manages background apps a little differently, and some are more strict than others. Try these steps first:
1) Battery optimisation / Power saving
Why it matters: Battery settings may stop apps from running in the background. How to check:
Settings → Apps → Love to Ride → Battery → Set to Unrestricted (or Don’t optimise)
Settings → Battery → Battery Saver → Make sure it’s OFF while riding
2) Background activity & data access
Why it matters: The app needs to stay running in the background and use mobile data. How to check:
Settings → Apps → Love to Ride → Mobile Data & Wi‑Fi → Turn both ON
Settings → Apps → Love to Ride → Battery → Allow background activity
Settings → Network & Internet → Data Saver → If it’s ON, make Love to Ride an exception
3) Location permissions (Allow all the time + High accuracy)
Why it matters: Ride detection depends on strong location access. How to check:
Settings → Apps → Love to Ride → Permissions → Location → Choose Allow all the time and switch Use precise location ON
Then go to Settings → Location → Location Services → Google Location Accuracy → Switch Improve Location Accuracy ON
4) Do Not Disturb / Focus / App hibernation
Why it matters: Some Android features pause or shut down background apps. How to check:
Settings → Apps → Love to Ride → Battery → Background Usage → Set to Unrestricted
Settings → Apps → Special App Access → Unused apps → Remove Love to Ride from the list
Settings → Digital Wellbeing → Focus Mode → Make sure Love to Ride isn’t blocked
5) Screen‑lock or idle limitations (Xiaomi, Oppo, OnePlus, Huawei, etc.)
On some phones, apps get shut down when the screen is off. Look for settings like:
App Auto‑Launch
Start in Background
Battery Management

Other helpful tips (Android)
Keep Love to Ride running in the background (don’t swipe it away).
Restart your phone after Android updates or permission changes.
Reinstall the app if issues continue (this resets permissions).
Turn off any third‑party battery saver or cleaner apps.
Android: Older or budget phones
What happens: Auto‑logging doesn’t work at all, or only sometimes.
Some lower‑end devices limit background activity heavily. Switching to Optimised mode often helps:
How to enable Optimised mode:
Open Love to Ride → More (bottom right)
Tap Settings
Find “Is auto logging working well for you?”
Select 👎 No
This activates a mode designed for your device and usually improves logging. (Note: On very basic phones, performance may still be limited).
Android: Huawei devices (GMS vs. HMS)
Auto‑logging depends on Google’s location services. To work, Huawei devices need full access to Google Mobile Services (GMS) and the Play Store.
Devices that typically support auto‑logging
Released before May 2019
Have the Play Store installed
Support Google services (e.g., Google Maps, Google Play Services)
Examples: Huawei P30/P30 Pro, Mate 20/Mate 20 Pro, Nova 4 and earlier.
These phones may still benefit from Optimised mode (see above).
Devices that typically don’t support auto‑logging
Released after May 2019
Ship without Google apps or the Play Store
Use Huawei Mobile Services (HMS), AppGallery, or Petal Maps
Run HarmonyOS
Examples: Huawei Mate 30 series; P40, P50, P60 series; Nova 7/8/9/10+; Mate X foldables; any phone without the Play Store.
Still having trouble?
Please send us the following so we can investigate:
Platform & version: iOS/Android + OS version (e.g., iOS 17.6, Android 14)
Phone model: (e.g., iPhone 14 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S22)
When logging fails: short rides, screen off, frequent stops, etc.
Examples: date/time (e.g., “13 Sept at 13:12”)
Logs (iOS only, if requested by the team):
In the app: More → Data Sharing = ON
Then: More → Settings → Beta Testing → Upload Native Logs

FAQ
Why do battery savers cause problems?
They pause or limit background tasks like motion and location, which the app needs to track rides.
Do I need the app open on screen?
No—you just need to leave it running in the background (don’t swipe it away).
Will very short rides be logged?
Short or stop‑and‑go trips can be harder to detect. After changing settings, try a 5–10 minute steady ride.
Can I log rides manually?
Yes—if auto‑logging isn’t supported on your phone (like some Huawei models), you can log rides manually.
It stopped working after an OS update—what now?
Updates can reset or change permissions. Re‑check Location, Background App Refresh/Activity, and Battery optimisation, then restart your phone.
