Filing a Claim

The new Claims Management portal in LTL Select is here to simplify the process. You can now initiate, document, and submit claims for damaged or lost goods directly from your shipment records.

Why use Claims Management?

Our portal centralizes everything. By filing through LTL Select, you ensure:

  • Automatic Data Entry: No more re-typing addresses or Pro numbers.

  • All-in-One Documentation: You can attach documentation such as photos directly to your claim.

  • Faster Submissions: Claims are sent instantly to the claims department with all necessary evidence.


How to File a Freight Claim

Step 1:
Navigate to the menu (☰) on the top left and click File a Claim. Search the delivered shipment that requires a claim and click to open the details.

Step 2:
​If you booked your shipment on LTL Select, search by the shipment's tracking number and our system will automatically pull in the origin, destination, and package details for you. Verify the Shipment Information and Package Information.



Step 3:
Select the Claim Type, choose the category that best describes the issue such as:

  • Lost: The entire shipment is missing.

  • Damaged: Damage discovered after the driver left.

  • Delayed: Shipment arrived after the agreed date.


Claim amount and Claim Description: Enter the claim amount and claim description.

Step 4:
Upload Supporting Documentation. This typically includes:

  • Photos of the damaged packaging and items.

  • Repair estimates or replacement invoices.

  • Any notes made on the delivery receipt.


Step 5:
Contact Information. Enter the contact details of the person filing the the claim.



Step 6:
Review your information and click Submit Claim. The system will package your details, the original BOL, and the POD into a structured report and send it directly to the FedEx Freight claims team. From here, the carrier will review the claim and reach back out to you with next steps.

Note: Claims must be filed within 9 months of the expected delivery date. Please have your tracking number, photos of damage (if applicable), and proof of value ready.


💡 Tips for a Successful Claim

  • Act Fast: Most carriers have strict deadlines for filing claims (especially for "Concealed Damage"). We recommend starting the process in LTL Select as soon as the issue is identified.

  • Picture Perfect: Take clear, high-resolution photos of the damage from multiple angles before discarding any packaging.

  • Keep it Central: By filing through the portal, you create a permanent digital paper trail that anyone on your team can reference later.

  • Claims can be filed for FedEx Freight shipments originating outside the LTL Select platform. However, the information provided will not be pre-populated, and all details will need to be manually entered.
