When setting up an assignment in Quiz mode, you can enable Safe Mode to track if a student tries to leave the quiz. With Safe Mode on, you’ll see when a student exits the quiz. If they leave, the quiz is paused, and they’re locked out until you restart it for them.
Before You Begin
It’s helpful to understand how Quiz Mode works before using Safe Mode. Check out our Quiz Mode guide for details!
How to Enable Safe Mode
When creating an assignment, you’ll have the option to turn on Safe Mode in the final step. Once you select Quiz Mode, the Safe Mode option will appear.
Managing the Quiz
Start the quiz by clicking Start.
To access quiz settings, open the heatmap by clicking anywhere on the quiz.
In the settings, you can Start, Pause, or End the quiz for students individually or for the entire class.
For example, if some students finish early, you can click End next to their names to finalize their results. They’ll then see which answers were correct and incorrect.
Tracking Student Activity
Click the exclamation point icon to check if a student has left the quiz.
To the right of the student’s name, you’ll see a timestamp of when they exited.
If they leave multiple times, you’ll see the total count. Hover over the icon to view exact timestamps.
What Happens When a Student Leaves?
If a student leaves the quiz by opening another tab or navigating away, they’ll see this message:
If they click the back arrow in the top left corner, they’ll be prompted to stay in the quiz.
If they still choose to leave:
To allow them back in, go to Quiz Settings and click Start next to their name.
