What is Safe Mode?
Safe Mode is an option in Quiz Mode that tracks if a student tries to leave the quiz. If a student exits the quiz window, the quiz automatically pauses for them and locks them out until you restart it.
Before You Start
Make sure you’re familiar with how Quiz Mode works. Check out our Quiz Mode guide for all the details!
How to Enable Safe Mode
When creating an assignment, select Quiz Mode in the final step.
You’ll see the option to toggle Safe Mode on—just switch it on to activate.
Managing the Quiz
Click Start to launch the quiz for your students.
Open the heatmap by clicking anywhere in the quiz to access quiz settings.
From here, you can Start, Pause, or End the quiz for individual students or the entire class.
Example: If some students finish early, click End next to their names to finalize their results and show them which answers were correct or incorrect.
Tracking Student Activity
Click the exclamation point (!) icon to see if a student has left the quiz.
You’ll see a timestamp for each time they exited, plus a total count if they left multiple times. Hover over the icon to view exact times.
What Happens if a Student Leaves?
Students who navigate away or open another tab will see a warning message encouraging them to stay in the quiz.
If they try to leave anyway:
To let a student back in, go to Quiz Settings and click Start next to their name.
