Before setting up a quiz, we recommend that you first create and complete at least one regular assignment (not in quiz mode) with your students. If you’re unsure how to do this, check out this guide. Once your students have completed a regular assignment, you’ll be ready to use Quiz Mode.

Creating a Quiz

Quiz Mode is an option you can enable in the final step of creating an assignment. When Quiz Mode is turned on:

  • Students won’t receive immediate feedback on whether their answers are correct.

  • They can’t view the correct answers while working on the assignment.

The Quiz is Created

Once created, the quiz will appear under the Assignments tab for both teachers and students.

  • On the teacher’s account: The quiz will appear in purple, and you’ll see an option to Start it.

  • On the student’s account: The quiz will also appear in purple, but students can’t access it until the teacher starts it.

Starting the Quiz

When you click Start, students can begin working on the quiz.

Unlike regular assignments:

  • Students won’t see immediate feedback (no red, yellow, or green indicators).

  • They submit each answer and click Next to move forward.

  • A purple progress circle shows how much of the quiz they’ve completed, but they won’t see their results yet.

Pausing the Quiz

If you need to stop the quiz, you can Pause it.

  • When the quiz is paused, students can’t answer any more questions.

  • Pausing applies to all students, but you can restart the quiz later if needed.

  • To pause the quiz, open the heatmap, then click Pause.

Ending the Quiz

When you End the quiz:

  • Students can see their results, including which answers were right or wrong.

  • It’s like handing back a graded quiz in class.

  • Students can re-enter the quiz to review their solutions and answers.

To end the quiz, open the heatmap and click End.

Note: If you don’t want students to see their results, simply pause the quiz instead of ending it. You’ll still be able to view their results in the heatmap, just like with a regular assignment.

Managing Individual Student Progress

In the Status settings, you can start, pause, or end the quiz for individual students. This is useful if some students finish early and you want to share their results while others are still working.
