Quiz Mode

Quiz Mode allows teachers to deliver assessments in Magma Math without immediate feedback or answer reveals.

Written by Stephanie

When Quiz Mode is enabled:

  • students cannot see whether answers are correct while working

  • correct answers remain hidden until the quiz is ended

  • teachers control when students can begin and review results

Before You Begin

We recommend students complete at least one regular assignment before using Quiz Mode so they can become familiar with the Magma Math experience.

Create a Quiz

Quiz Mode is enabled during the final step of assignment creation.

To create a quiz:

  1. Create a new assignment.

  2. Open Settings and Order.

  3. Enable Quiz Mode.

  4. Create the assignment.

Student and Teacher Experience

For Teachers

Quizzes appear in purple within the Assignments tab.

Teachers will see a Start button before students can access the quiz.

For Students

Students will also see the quiz in purple, but they cannot open it until the teacher starts the quiz.

Start the Quiz

When you are ready for students to begin:

  1. Open the assignment.

  2. Click Start.

While the quiz is active:

  • students answer questions and move forward using Next

  • students see a purple progress indicator showing completion progress

  • results and correct answers remain hidden

Pause the Quiz

Teachers can pause a quiz for all students at any time.

To pause a quiz:

  1. Open the heatmap.

  2. Click Pause.

While paused:

  • students cannot continue answering questions

  • progress remains saved

  • teachers can restart the quiz later by clicking Startanswer questions. You can restart the quiz later by clicking “Start” again.

End the Quiz

When you are ready to release results:

  1. Open the heatmap.

  2. Click End.

Ending the quiz:

  • reveals correct and incorrect answers

  • allows students to review their work

  • displays graded quiz results

If you do not want students to see results yet, pause the quiz instead of ending it. Teachers will still be able to monitor student progress through the heatmap while results remain hidden from students.

Manage Individual Student Status

Teachers can also start, pause, or end quizzes for individual students through the Status settings. This is useful when:

  • students need extended time

  • some students finish earlier than others

  • results should only be released to specific students
