Before You Begin

We recommend starting with at least one regular assignment (not in Quiz Mode) to help pupils get familiar with Magma Maths. If you’re unsure how to create one, check out this guide. How to Create an Assignment

Once your pupils are comfortable, you’re ready to set up your first quiz.

Creating a Quiz

Quiz Mode is enabled in the final step of creating an assignment. When turned on:

  • Pupils won’t receive immediate feedback on whether their answers are correct.

  • They can’t view the correct answers while working on the assignment.

  • Lava the hint bot will not appear to provide help.

What Happens Next?

  • For Teachers: The quiz appears in purple in the Assignments tab. You’ll see a “Start” button.

  • For Pupils: The quiz also appears in purple, but they can’t open it until you start it.

Starting the Quiz

Click “Start” when you’re ready for pupils to begin.

While the quiz is active:

  • Pupils submit answers and click “Next” to move forward.

  • They see a purple progress circle showing how much they’ve completed.

  • No results or feedback are shown until you end the quiz.

Pausing the Quiz

Need to temporarily stop the quiz? You can pause it for all pupils:

  1. Open the heatmap.

  2. Click “Pause”.

While paused, pupils can’t answer questions. You can restart the quiz later by clicking “Start” again.

Ending the Quiz

When you’re ready to share results:

  1. Open the heatmap.

  2. Click “End”.

This will:

  • Reveal pupils results (right/wrong answers).

  • Allow pupils to re-enter and review their work, just like getting a graded quiz back.

Tip: If you don’t want pupils to see results yet, keep the quiz paused instead of ending it. You’ll still be able to view their progress in the heatmap.

Managing Individual Pupils

You can start, pause, or end the quiz for individual pupils in the Status settings. This is helpful if:

  • Some pupils finish early.

  • You want to release results for them while others are still working.
