Why We’re Not Hypoallergenic
Why We’re Not Hypoallergenic
Updated over 2 months ago

At Marro, we’re all about creating meals that are free from common allergens—because no one likes an upset tummy, especially not your feline foodie. However, it's important to note our meals are not hypoallergenic.

So, let’s break that down a bit (without too much scientific jargon, we promise).

When people talk about “hypoallergenic” food, they usually mean meals that don’t contain allergens and often include something called hydrolysed proteins. These are proteins that have been broken down into itty-bitty pieces to help sensitive stomachs handle them better and lower the risk of an allergic reaction. Think of it as protein that’s ALREADY been pre-chewed by sharp feline fangs (but, you know, less gross).

Whilst we are not hypoallergenic, we do make sure our meals are free from common culprits like cereals, fillers, and grains because your cat deserves better than unwanted mystery ingredients. Plus, we use only single-source proteins in each of our delicious recipes available on our menu. If we say it’s chicken, it’s just chicken. No hidden mix ups.

So, if your cat has beef with chicken (pun intended), you can choose a different recipe that keeps them feline good.

If you’re looking specifically for hypoallergenic food with hydrolysed proteins, Marro might not be the right food to fill your bowl. But if your goal is to avoid common allergens like grains or fillers, and you want to pick meals based on your cat’s particular protein preferences (we get it, they know what they like and they’ll stick to it), our Fresh food is a great option. We even have a guide for sensitive stomachs because we’ve all seen what happens when the wrong food hits… (poor litter tray).
