Overview

MaxanetPay supports card-present, in-person credit card swipe transactions so you can take payment directly from a bidder at pickup or during a live event, right from the same Maxanet Admin panel you already use. To do this, Maxanet uses a MagTek USB card reader together with a special web browser called MagneFlex. The MagneFlex browser is what allows the MagTek card reader to talk to Maxanet's admin panel — a normal Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge browser cannot read the MagTek device.

Important: you cannot use a normal browser for in-person MaxanetPay swipes. You must install the MagneFlex browser on the specific computer or iPad that will be used for card-present transactions, and run Maxanet inside MagneFlex for the card reader to work.

What you need to process in-person card swipes

To process in-person credit card swipe transactions with MaxanetPay you need an approved and boarded MaxanetPay account, a MagTek USB card reader device, a Windows computer (64-bit) or an iPad running iOS, a USB port (for Windows) or the iPad version of MagneFlex (for iOS), and your Maxanet Admin panel login credentials including any access code emailed to you during login.

How to download and install MagneFlex on Windows (64-bit)

On a Windows 64-bit computer, download the MagneFlex installer directly from MagTek at https://www.magtek.com/Content/SoftwarePackages/1000007632.zip. The link starts a ZIP file download — extract the ZIP and run the installer inside.

If the direct link does not work, go to the MagTek software download page at https://www.magtek.com/support/magneflex?tab=software, scroll down to the MAGNEFLEX BROWSER section, and select the MagneFlex Navy, Browser, MFX 2.0 for Windows x64 — PN 1000007632 — v200 option for 64-bit Windows, or the version below it if you are on an older 32-bit (x86) system.

How to download MagneFlex on iOS or iPad

On iPhone or iPad, download MagneFlex directly from the Apple App Store at https://apps.apple.com/us/app/magneflex/id1169053188. Install MagneFlex like any other iOS app.

Having trouble with the download or install? Contact Maxanet support at support@maxanet.com or use the Live Chat feature in your Maxanet admin panel, and we will schedule a screen-share meeting with you to walk through the installation together.

How to log into Maxanet through the MagneFlex browser

Once MagneFlex is installed, open the MagneFlex browser and navigate to your Maxanet admin panel login page (for example, https://prod1.maxanet.auction). Log into your account with your usual Maxanet admin credentials. If Maxanet prompts you for an Access code, enter the code that was emailed to you — access codes are sent automatically when Maxanet sees a new device or browser. Add your Maxanet admin panel URL to bookmarks inside MagneFlex so you can open it with one click next time.

How to connect the MagTek card reader device

On Windows, plug your MagTek device into a USB port on your computer. A green light on the MagTek device should turn on or blink to signal that the device is powered and ready to accept a card. On iPad, connect the MagTek device according to the hardware's iOS-specific instructions.

How to process an in-person card swipe transaction against a bidder invoice

With MagneFlex open and the MagTek device plugged in and ready, navigate to the bidder invoice you want to charge in the Maxanet admin panel: Auction → Auction Dashboard → Invoices tab. Find the invoice, click the Actions menu on that invoice, and select Make Payment. On the Make Payment pop-up window, choose Credit Card.

On the credit card payment screen, click the Swipe Card radio button. You also have the option to check Save Card for Future Payments, which will save the swiped card into the bidder's profile so you can charge it again later without swiping again. Click Submit to start the swipe.

Maxanet will show a message saying the MagTek device is connected and the transaction is starting. If you do not see that message, ensure the MagTek device is properly connected via the USB cable (Windows) and that the green light is on.

When the Present Card message appears on the screen, you are ready to insert the bidder's credit card. Insert the card with the chip facing down into the top of the MagTek device. The card takes a few seconds to process, and the MagTek device will tell you when to remove the card. The pop-up window closes automatically and the invoice updates — a new payment type called Charged — Card Swipe appears in the invoice history, and if the swipe was a full payment the invoice changes to Fully Paid. Click the arrow to the left of the invoice number to expand the payment history and confirm the swipe was recorded.

Troubleshooting MaxanetPay in-person card swipes

Symptom

Cause

How to fix it

Card reader not detected by Maxanet

Maxanet is open in a normal browser (Chrome, Safari, etc.), not in MagneFlex

Close the normal browser and reopen your Maxanet admin panel inside the MagneFlex browser. Normal browsers cannot talk to the MagTek device.

No green light on the MagTek device

USB cable is loose or the port is not delivering power

Unplug and re-plug the USB cable, try a different USB port, and check the cable for damage.

MagneFlex will not install on Windows

Downloading the 32-bit version on a 64-bit machine or vice versa

Download the version matching your Windows architecture from the MagTek software page. Contact Maxanet support for a screen-share if the installer still fails.

Access code prompt keeps appearing in MagneFlex

MagneFlex is treated as a new browser/device on every launch

Check the Remember Me option when entering the access code, or bookmark the Maxanet URL inside MagneFlex so the session persists.

"Present Card" message never appears

Device not recognized mid-transaction

Cancel the transaction, verify the MagTek green light is on, and start the swipe again from the invoice Actions menu.

Common questions about in-person MaxanetPay card swipes

Can I use a regular Chrome or Safari browser for in-person card swipes?

No. MaxanetPay card-present swipes require the MagneFlex browser, which is what allows Maxanet to communicate with the MagTek USB card reader. Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge cannot talk to the MagTek device and will not show the Swipe Card option.

Do I need a separate MaxanetPay account for in-person transactions?

No. In-person card swipes use the same MaxanetPay merchant account as your online bidder card transactions. There is nothing extra to apply for — once MaxanetPay is approved and boarded, card-present swipes are available through the MagneFlex + MagTek setup.

Can I swipe a card on an iPad?

Yes. MagneFlex is available for iOS/iPad through the Apple App Store. Download the iPad version, install it, and use the MagTek iOS-compatible hardware. The process for running the transaction is the same as on Windows.

What happens if I choose "Save Card for Future Payments"?

Maxanet stores the swiped card in the bidder's profile so you can charge it again later without requiring another swipe. This is useful for repeat bidders who pick up in person and want to pay later invoices remotely.

Do in-person swipe fees differ from online transaction fees?

Fee structure depends on your specific Fullsteam merchant agreement. Contact Fullsteam Payment Services at 334-329-6775 (option 4, then 2) or email payments.support@fullsteam.com for your account-specific rates.

Which MagTek device models work with MaxanetPay?

Any MagTek device supported by the MagneFlex browser works with MaxanetPay card-present transactions. If you are unsure whether a specific model is compatible before purchasing, contact Maxanet support at support@maxanet.com to confirm before ordering.
