Why is my distance different for the same ride?

The same route can have a different distance, depending on a few factors.

Example: I make a commute from my home address to my office in Brussels, with my bicycle on Monday. The distance automatically calculated for this trip is 5.6 km. But on Thursday I make the same trip, also by car, and then the distance is 4.9 km 🧐

In exceptional cases, the distance can differ for the same trip.

How is this possible?

The distance is calculated automatically via Google Maps. Based on a series of parameters (day of the week, traffic, roadworks...), Google automatically takes the best distance.

So if the distance for the same trip is sometimes different, it's because Google's algorithm considers that distance to be the best distance at the time of calculation.

💡 You can also change the distance yourself if you disagree with Google's calculation.
