How can I make sure daily purchase limits are followed?
How can I make sure daily purchase limits are followed?

California allows anyone 21+ to buy 28.5g grams of flower and 8g of concentrated cannabis. For medical purchases, the flower limit is 8 oz.

Purchase limits are set up with a two step approach in the system. Both must be set to use daily purchase limits:

Every Category in the system can be assigned to one of four product types:

  • Non-concentrated cannabis (for flower).

  • Concentrated cannabis product (for extracts, edibles, tinctures, etc. that contain cannabis).

  • Immature plant (for clones).

  • None (for accessories or anything else that doesn't contain cannabis).

To set types for each category, just click Edit next to the category name.

Setting product and product option quantities

Once each Product Category has been assigned to one of the four types, you can enter the gram or mg value for each product/option. Open each product and set the amount as follows:

  • g for non-concentrates (flower, e.g. 3.5g).

  • mg for concentrates (e.g. 100mg)

  • Count for immature plants (e.g. 1 clone)

  • If cannabis content is not entered for a product, it will not be counted towards the daily limit.

What are the daily limits?

  • 1 ounce (28.5 grams) of cannabis flower for adult users; 8 ounces of flower for medical customers with a valid doctor's recommendation.

  • 8 grams (8,000 mg) of concentrated cannabis products for adult use sales, and the "plant conversion" equivalent of 8 ounces for medical sales.

  • 6 immature plants for adult use, 12 immature plants for medical.

  • These limits are by product type, so an adult user may buy 1 ounce, 8 grams and 6 plants in one day.

If an order is cancelled, that order's THC contents will not be counted towards the customer's daily limit.

  • If a product is returned, the returned product's THC content will still count towards the customer's daily purchase limit.

Anonymous orders will automatically apply the adult use purchase limits.

  • Customers must create a profile and attach a valid recommendation to purchase the medical limit.

  • By their nature, anonymous orders can't track if a person has already made a purchase that day. Using anonymous orders makes enforcement of daily purchase limits very difficult.

If you are using substitutions, the system will user the g/mg value of the larger option (selected by the customer).

  • For this reason, the substituted smaller options must add up to the larger option.

  • For example: If an eighth is 3.6g, selling 8 of them is is over the adult use limit (28.8g > 28.5g).

  • For this reason, smaller and larger units should be proportional if substitutions are used (if an eighth of a product is 3.5g, an ounce of that product should be 28g).

What happens if someone goes over the limit?

  • Any time a purchase exceeds the daily limit, a warning will appear to prevent the transaction from completing.

  • Remove some product from the cart and try again, or view the customer's profile to see if they have already made a purchase that day (and if so, how much).

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND:

  • Under current regulations, concentrated cannabis products with more than 1,000 mg per package can only be sold to medical customers.

  • Cannabis concentrate products can't have more than 2,000 mg per package, even if for medical use.
