How to Use the Changelog

The Changelog keeps track of notable plan, entry and target activity in a feed that can viewed by all users.


Where can you view the changelog?

The changelog can be accessed from multiple places in Mediatool:

  • Parent level:

    • Hub Page: In the top right corner within the changelog menu.

    • Media Overview: In the top right corner within the contextual menu

  • Subsidiary level:

    • Hub Page: In the top right corner within the changelog menu (see image above).

    • Media Overview: In the top right corner within the contextual menu (see image above).

  • Plan level:

    • Various Views (Calendar view, Sheet view, Delivery Plan, Approval Requests, Plan Setup, Plan Reports, Media Plan, Plan Targets): Located in the top right corner within the contextual menu on each of these pages.

  • Single entries in the Sheet view:

    • Right-click on an entry in the Sheet View and choose "Show changelog" to be taken directly to the Changelog for that row.


What Information Does the Changelog Display on Different Pages?

The changelog will display different data depending on where you access it:

Parent Level

At this level, the Changelog displays high-level information about changes across all subsidiaries. For instance "Jane Doe updated 41 entries in Paid Social."

To get more details on specific entries and their respective plans, click on the blue link provided in the message.

Subsidiary Level

The Changelog here provides high-level information about changes within all plans of a subsidiary. For instance "John Doe updated 32 entries in TV."

Click on the blue link within the message to see detailed entries and the specific plans they belong to.

Plan Level (Excluding Sheet View)

For these views, the Changelog shows high-level information about changes in the specific plan you are currently viewing. For instance "Jane Doe updated 2 entries in Paid Social."

Click the blue link in the message to see detailed entries.

Plan Level (Sheet View Entries)

This view includes an additional section called "Entries", offering detailed information about changes for each media type. You can filter the Changelog entries to display changes within specific date ranges. Simply enter the desired date range at the top of the Changelog to refine the results.

Note that:

  • The Entries page will indicate the current media type and show data only for that specific media type (see image below).

  • To view another media type, click on the tab located at the bottom of the page.


Visible Changes in the Changelog

Here's the type of data you can expect to find in the Changelog:

  • Who requested plan approval, from whom, and when

  • Who approved or changed a plan's status and when

  • Who created a plan and when

  • Who archived a plan and when

  • Which Media Plan has been edited and when

  • Which Media Plan has been deleted and when

  • Which Media Vehicle has been edited

  • Which Media Vehicle has been deleted

Here’s the type of data you can expect to find in the Entries list in the Sheet View:

  • Original entry

  • Date/Time the change was made

  • The user who made the change

  • The user who made the original entry

  • All changes made to an entry, not just recent changes

  • All changes made to a column (text, date, number, calculation, tag), not just recent changes (Sheetview)

  • All changes made to a Media Type, not just recent changes

  • All changes made to a plan

  • All changes made to a Target

  • All deleted entries and state before deletion

  • Which Media Vehicle has been edited

  • Which Media Vehicle has been deleted
