How does MemberVault Determine which Affiliate gets Credit for a Sale?

If multiple affiliates share to the same audience, here is how we determine which affiliate gets credit.

Written by Hannah Harris

MemberVault uses last-click attribution for affiliate referrals.

This means that if someone clicks multiple affiliate links before making a purchase, the affiliate associated with the most recently used affiliate cookie will receive credit for the sale.

What happens if someone clicks multiple affiliate links?

For example:

  • A customer clicks Affiliate A’s link.

  • Later, the same customer clicks Affiliate B’s link.

  • The customer then makes a purchase.

Affiliate B will receive credit for the purchase because their affiliate link was the most recent referral.

Affiliate attribution is tracked using a browser cookie. For more information about the affiliate tracking cookie and how long it remains active, see this article about affiliate tracking cookies.

What if someone signs up for a free product first?

Affiliate attribution can also carry through from a free product sign-up to a later purchase.

For example:

  • A customer clicks an affiliate’s link.

  • They sign up for your free summit or other free product.

  • Later, they purchase a paid product from you.

The original affiliate can still receive credit for that paid purchase as long as it happens within the 6-month affiliate tracking window.

You don't need to set up anything additional to make this work. The affiliate attribution carries through automatically as long as the affiliate tracking cookie is still active.

Keep in mind: If the customer clicks a different affiliate's link before making the paid purchase, the newer affiliate referral can replace the previous affiliate attribution.
