Depending on the types of files you are sharing with your people in your products, you may often find yourself wanting a file to automatically download rather than open in a new tab.

This is especially handy for items such as PDF files, Word docs, or spreadsheets.

When you upload your file to your lesson, you will see an option called 'When user clicks file..' which gives you the ability to tell MV whether you want the file to automatically open in a new browser tab or whether you would prefer it download automatically to the user's device.

Once you've selected your preference and added in the other details relative to the file, click 'Add File'.

If you've set the file to automatically download, you will see a cloud icon appear beside the file name in your Lesson Files link which helps you identify the setting in place for each file. No cloud icon beside the file name means that the file will open in a new tab.

All file settings will default to opening in a new browser tab unless you've updated the 'Force Download?' settings.

To adjust the settings for a file you have previously uploaded, simply visit that Lesson and select 'edit' for the file in question. There you will be able to alter the settings under the 'When user clicks file..' option. Once done, click 'Save File' to save your change.
