How to Enable Automatic Tax Collection for your MV Sales

Enable automatic tax collection to have Stripe handle taxes like VAT, GST, etc. This will only work for Stripe purchases, not PayPal

Written by Hannah Harris

As of September 2024, you can now enable Stripe Tax to automatically collect taxes when someone purchases a Product or Offer from you on your MemberVault Site.

Keep in mind, this will only work for Stripe payments and not for PayPal payments. We recommend only offering Stripe as a payment option if you are using this feature to collect sales tax on your products.

Under "Integrations" - "Payment" you will see an option to Enable Automatic Tax Collection as well as a link to make sure you have Stripe Tax set up in your Stripe account:

If this section is grayed out and your Stripe Tax Status is not listed as Active, this means you need to enable Stripe Tax in your Stripe account first. Please refer to this article from Stripe to set this up.

Another important thing to note is MemberVault is only communicating to Stripe to let them know to collect tax on this sale. All tax collection, management and reporting happens over in Stripe itself, so for any specific questions about tax or VAT, you will need to refer to Stripe's Tax articles.

For EU Customers Only:

Our Stripe Integration will now allow your members to supply a VAT number and address at checkout where applicable. Stripe will be able to detect if your customer is located in the EU and provide the necessary fields for them to fill out. This section will not appear for customers located outside the EU.
