"Run Face 6 First" Toolfile Adjustments

Control which corner receives the Face 6 trim cut (UserSetOrigin) and correct trim tool compensation (ReverseToolComp) in an IPP tool file.

Microvellum software gives the user the ability to control which corner gets trimmed without having to make extensive changes to the spreadsheet of the toolfile.

This also allows the user to control which way the tool is running, either clockwise or counterclockwise. Trim route direction is based on the same toolfile setting as the part border direction. That setting is "Border Route Direction."

In this article, we will briefly review the settings and how to control them.

Which setting do I change?

  • To change which corner — and so which edge — receives the Face 6 trim cut, use UserSetOrigin (below).

  • ReverseToolComp (RUNFACE6) only flips the tool compensation on the trim cuts. It does not move the trim to the other side of the part.

  • Border Route Direction only sets whether the tool travels clockwise or counterclockwise.

If your machine assigns work fields or origin corners in its own software (for example, field corners on an SCM machine), the corner chosen at the machine also affects which side is trimmed. Confirm the setting with your machine manufacturer.

Adjust which corner is getting the Face 6 Trim cut:

Open a toolfile in the spreadsheet environment (Options > Machining > Open a Tool File in Spreadsheet...).

Click on the tab "Settings."

Find the variable in column A "UserSetOrigin" (usually found on row 33). Enter a value in column B (1 for Lower Left; 2 for Lower Right; 3 for Upper Right; 4 for Upper Left). See the example below.

If nothing is in that row, or it contains a different variable, enter the new variable name in column A "UserSetOrigin" for later use. Add the following help text in column C: "1 for Lower Left; 2 for Lower Right; 3 for Upper Right; 4 for Upper Left."

If the tool compensation is incorrect on the trim cuts for Face 6, click the spreadsheet Settings tab again and find row 130. For most, it will probably be blank. Enter "ReverseToolComp (RUNFACE6)" in column A, and a value of 1 in column B to flip the tool comp. See the example below.
