MNTN is giving advertisers more control over where and when their ads are served. With Advanced Settings, you can manually control your ad frequency (beta), establish dayparting, and set TV network blocklists at both the advertiser and campaign levels.
By default, MNTN's proprietary optimization engine will automate the ad buying process and work to generate the best possible results for your campaigns. The optimization engine balances both your budget and goal against your target audience to help you generate results, all while serving your ads on top-tier networks. This allows our advertisers to avoid needing to make manual optimizations to their campaigns.
However, if manual adjustments are desired for your business purposes, these options can be found in the Advanced Settings toolkit.
In this article, we'll cover:
✅ Understanding TV Network Blocklist at the campaign level
Where to find your Advanced Settings options:
You can adjust the Advanced Settings at either the Account level or the Campaign level. Any settings at the Campaign level will override the Account level settings for that specific campaign.
To find Advanced Settings - Account Level:
Navigate to the menu on the top right of the page
Select ‘My Account’
Navigate and select ‘Advanced Settings’ on the left menu. This brings you to the feature page that displays your Advanced Setting options:
To find Advanced Settings - Campaign Level:
Navigate into a specific campaign, or create a new one under the Campaign tab.
From the options on the left-hand side, select Advanced Settings
Understanding Account vs Campaign Settings:
If any of the controls are set on the Advertiser level, those settings will automatically be defaulted and applied in the new campaign creation flow (as long as the campaign was created after the Advertiser-level control was set).
💡Note: The Advertiser-level advanced setting change will be maintained on all campaigns. This means that the Manual option will include the Advertiser-level block, which cannot be removed from the campaign. The Manual option allows the advertiser to have additional control on a campaign level.
Understanding your Advanced Settings Status:
🕓 Automated
This is the default status, allowing MNTN's optimization engine to automate strategy for this setting, in order to drive the best performance based on your campaign goal.
🔒 Manual
This status means a manual adjustment has been made to this setting. If this status shows at the Campaign level, it will apply the manual adjustments in addition to any Account level ("Global") settings.
🌐 Global
If this status is selected, it means this setting has been manually adjusted on the Account Level and those adjustments will be applied on the Campaign Level as well. This status is only available via Campaign level Advanced Settings.
In the example Campaign below:
Frequency Cap is set for the Campaign level ("Manual")
Day and Week Parting is at the default setting of "Automated"
TV Network Blocklist is set for the Account level, which applies to this campaign ("Global")
Understanding your Frequency Control Settings (Beta)
Our Frequency control feature allows advertisers to limit the number of times a household sees your commercial over a given period of time. Currently, MNTN optimizes frequency for performance, setting the best frequency to hit our advertisers’ goals. However, you can use this feature to remain below a maximum frequency per household.
The frequency cap is expressed as the number of maximum impressions over a set number of whole days.
✅ Example: 1 ad impression per household every 2 days. This cap means that your ads will never exceed the number of impressions per household but may come at or under the frequency cap.
How to Set Your Frequency Control Setting - Account Level:
Navigate to Advanced Settings in the My Account section
Select Manual if you would like to set a frequency cap within Frequency Control
Input the Number of Impressions per the Number of Days you would like to cap a user's viewing of your commercial over a given period of time.
Save Changes
How to Set Your Frequency Control Setting - Campaign Level:
Navigate into the Campaign you would like to change the Frequency under the Campaign tab
From the options on the left-hand side, select Advanced Settings
Select Manual if you would like to set a frequency cap within Frequency Control
Input the Number of Impressions per the Number of Days you would like to cap a user's viewing of your commercial over a given period of time for that campaign.
Save Changes
Account vs Campaign Settings:
Any Frequency controls set at the Account level will apply automatically to all live campaigns. If a Campaign frequency setting is also applied, it will override the account setting for that campaign.
💡 Important Note: We recommend discussing any frequency cap settings with your MNTN Account team to discuss possible impact to reach and/or performance that may result from limiting frequency for your campaign or account.
Understanding your Dayparting Setting
Dayparting Parting allows advertisers to specify the days and times during which you do not want your commercials to air. With this feature, you can configure your campaigns and account to block any combination of hours and days. The time zone of hours blocked will match the Advertiser Time Zone in your account.
How to Set Your Dayparting Setting - Account Level:
Navigate to Advanced Settings in the My Account section
Select Manual if you want to choose specific days and times to exclude.
Select the specific day or time blocks you would like to exclude in the grid below.
Save Changes
In the above example: A 4-hour block is added on the account level for Monday through Friday. With this block, no MNTN ads, from any campaigns, will be served between the hours of 12 am and 4 am Mon-Fri.
How to Set Your Dayparting Setting - Campaign Level:
Navigate into the Campaign you would like to change the Dayparting setting for under the Campaign tab
From the options on the left-hand side, select Advanced Settings
Select Manual to choose specific days and times to exclude.
Select the specific day or time blocks you would like to exclude in the grid below.
Save Changes
In the above example: A 4-hour block is added on the Campaign level for Monday through Thursday. With this block, no MNTN ads from this campaign will be served between the hours of 12 am and 4 am Mon-Thurs.
Account (Global) vs Campaign Settings:
Any Dayparting blocks set at the Account level will apply automatically to all live campaigns, and cannot be removed from the campaign setting (noted as a "Global" setting).
Any additional Campaign blocks will be in addition to the "Globally Blocked" settings.
In the above example: No MNTN ads will be served from 1 am - 3 am Mon - Wed for this campaign. This includes the 1 am -2 am Global (Account) block as well as the 2 am - 3 am Campaign block.
💡 Important Note: We recommend contacting your MNTN Account team to discuss any possible impact to reach and/or performance that may come from your manual dayparting.
Understanding your TV Network Blocklist Settings
MNTN allows customers to block TV Networks at both the Account and Campaign level. The TV Network Blocklist is the ability to block ads from being served on designated TV Networks. MNTN only features your ads on Living Room Quality Inventory, through a specially curated list of high-quality networks.
However, should you decide not to serve on certain networks, you can use this tool to block those networks for your account as a whole, or just for certain campaigns.
How to Block a TV Network - Account Level:
More detail on blocking TV Networks can be found here.
Once you're logged into MNTN, navigate to your My Account section
Select TV Network Blocklist
Search for the Network you wish to block
Click the toggle to move the network from the unblocked status to the blocked status
How to Block a TV Network - Campaign Level:
Navigate into the Campaign you would like to block TV Networks for under the Campaign tab
From the options on the left-hand side, select Advanced Settings
Select Manual from the dropdown
Search for the Network you wish to block on the Campaign Level
Click the toggle to move the network from the unblocked status to the blocked status
Save Changes
Navigating the TV Network Blocklist tool
In the top left you have the option to filter by TV Network status: blocked and unblocked to quickly view your setup
You can use the search bar to source networks you have top of mind
The primary view shows you the logos of each network, but you can toggle your view next to the search bar if you prefer a more condensed look
Account (Global) vs Campaign Settings:
Any TV Network blocks set at the Account level will apply automatically to all live campaigns, and cannot be removed from the campaign setting (noted as a "Global" setting).
Any additional Campaign blocks will be in addition to the networks that are "Blocked in Global Settings."
In the above example: ACC Network, Adult Swim, and A&E are blocked in Global Settings (account-level), while ABC & ABC Local News are blocked for this campaign only.
💡Important Note: constraining TV inventory limits our ability to reach users wherever they’re watching CTV, which can impact reach and performance. We recommended reaching out to your MNTN Account team to discuss any possible impact to reach and/or performance that may come from your TV Network blocks.
