The Canvas export feature lets you customize and download materials as a file to import directly into Canvas. This is a great way to get your resources into your LMS.

How to export and import your section materials into Canvas:

In the Resource Hub:

  1. Navigate to your Course, open your Unit or Module, and select your Section or Topic.

  2. Select Import in the upper right corner of the page.

  3. Choose Canvas export from the import destination options.

  4. On the Customize screen, review your import setup. Select Edit preferences to adjust which activity types, video types, and resources to include. When you are ready, select Continue to Review.

  5. On the Review screen, you can make additional customizations to each lesson and activity:

    • Edit the lesson or activity name

    • Update the directions to students to match the language you use in your classroom

    • Add, edit, or delete resources

    • Change or preview resource URLs

  6. When you have finished reviewing, scroll to the bottom of the page and select Download .imscc File. Your file will begin generating — this may take a moment.

  7. Once the download is complete, select Go to Canvas or navigate to Canvas on your own.

In Canvas:

  1. From your Canvas course, select Import Existing Content on the right side of the page.

  2. Under Select Content Type, choose Canvas Course Export Package.

  3. Upload your downloaded file by dragging it into the upload area or selecting Choose File to browse your files. Once uploaded, the file name will appear below the upload area. Then, select Add to Import Queue. What for the file to download and it is ready to use!

Tip: To see what your students will see after importing, select View as Student in the upper right corner of your Canvas course.
