'This is a personal QR code' in Thailand
'This is a personal QR code' in Thailand

Currently, Moreta only works with business QR codes registered with ThaiQR, and does not support personal QR codes.

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Some smaller vendors, such as night market stalls or family-run businesses, may use personal ThaiQR codes to accept payments. These personal QR codes are restricted for use with cross-border QR code wallets like Moreta by the Bank of Thailand due to money laundering concerns.

However, this is a limitation we're actively working to address.

How Can You Identify a Personal QR Code?

You can recognize a personal QR code by the format displayed below the QR code itself. Typically, personal QR codes will include a format like xxxx-9837-x or something similar.

What Does This Mean for You?

If you attempt to pay at a shop or vendor using a personal QR code, the payment will not be processed. Instead, you'll see a message such as 'This is a personal QR code'. While this may affect some of your transactions at smaller vendors, rest assured that we're working to expand Moreta's functionality.

What’s Next?

We are dedicated to making Moreta work seamlessly for all payment scenarios. Our team is actively working on enabling support for personal QR codes, and we aim to make this feature available early 2025.

Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work to enhance your payment experience with Moreta. Stay tuned for updates!
