Mia is Morningstar Investor’s latest innovation – a digital virtual assistant powered by advanced natural language processing and machine learning technologies.
Developed to streamline user support, Mia is equipped to answer your Investor support queries instantly, provide guidance, and offer step-by-step instructions for key Investor functionalities, helping you make the most out of Investor without interrupting your workflow.

How to Access Mia
Getting started with Mia is easy. When you log in to your Morningstar Investor account, select the floating blue button in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.
The Chat Window will open, and you can ask your question by selecting Chat with us.
Mia is fully integrated into the Morningstar Investor platform, ensuring you can access support directly from the page you’re on, without the need for additional installations, applications or a separate browser.
Asking questions
Asking Mia questions is simple and convenient.
Just select the Chat with us tile from the Home or Messages section, and type in your query. Mia will search through all our existing content to find the best answer for you. While the response time depends on the complexity of your question, Mia will typically provide an answer within seconds.
You can also ask follow-up questions, or even completely unrelated ones, within the same conversation, making it easy to explore multiple topics quickly.
Is my data protected with Mia?
We have strict measures in place to protect data. While Mia is a powerful tool, like all AI, she’s not perfect, so it’s best to keep sensitive information out of conversations.

Mia may collect the personal information you provide, and we advise against sharing any personal information that is not necessary for the purposes for which you interact with Mia.

Mia is powered by AI, but no user data is used to train Ava, ensuring complete confidentiality.
The data you share with Mia is securely stored with our third-party provider, Intercom and only for as long as needed to address your inquiry. Mia is powered by Intercom, which may process your information to provide this service. By continuing to use Ava, you agree to the collection and use of your information as described.
Mia is built with robust privacy protocols, and all interactions are encrypted for your security.
We’re here to ensure Mia enhances your experience while keeping data security a top priority!
Once Mia has provided you with a correct answer, type ‘Yes’ when asked ‘Was that helpful?’. This lets Mia know that the information was correct and will help her improve her responses in the future.

Mia is still learning and currently answers around 77% of questions correctly.
As she continues to grow and improve, her accuracy will only improve. If you’re not getting the answer you need, here are some tips to help:
Rephrase your question - Try using simpler or more specific wording. Mia, like all AI, can sometimes misinterpret complex phrasing or questions with multiple elements.
Be concise - Shorter, direct queries often yield better results. For example, instead of asking, “How do I create a Sharesight portfolio to track in Morningstar Investor and link them together?”, try asking, “How do I create a portfolio?”
Avoid jargon or abbreviations - If possible, use full terms instead of acronyms or highly specific technical terms that may not yet be recognised.
Re-prompting helps Mia learn - Asking a similar question in a slightly different way helps train Mia to understand your phrasing and style better for future interactions.

Scrolling down the Home screen allows you to access additional options to make your life easier.
The top of the window will show your recently asked questions and a field allowing you to open a new conversation.

We have also made it easier to report any bugs or issues you may be experiencing, directly from the chat window!
Just select Create a ticket in the Home section of your chat window and fill in the required fields to raise the issue with our team. You will be able to view the details and track the status of your ticket within the Messages section of your chat window.
You can also now book a one-on-one demonstration with our consultant to get the most out of your investor subscription. Just select the Book your Live Personalised Session button and book a session in the calendar.

The messages section also allows you to revisit in-app messaging you may have closed or missed. Simply click on the message to interact with the content.

We are also introducing a News feature in the Help Centre window. Here you will be able to find the latest updates and improvements to Investor, as well as any important notifications.
You can open the content without leaving Morningstar Investor. Interacting with the news will open within the chat window, along with any subsequent links therein. Allowing you to stay up to date with our improvements – without interrupting your workflow.

Mia comes with a sleek, easy-to-navigate Help Centre designed to help you quickly find the information you need. All content is now categorised, making it easier than ever to locate what you’re looking for.
You can always ask Mia – she is faster and will surface the content as well as an articulate summary of the content. We have also added a link to return to Morningstar Investor’s homepage, in case you can't get to your account.
Additionally, you can easily rate the articles you access. This feedback helps us improve the quality and relevance of the content that feeds Mia, ensuring she continues to deliver accurate and helpful answers.
