Enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) in Motics

Add an extra layer of security to your Motics account with an authenticator app.

Written by Dr. Harvinder Power

Why enable 2FA?

Two-Factor Authentication adds a second layer of protection to your Motics account. After it’s enabled you’ll need both your Motics password and a one-time code from an authenticator app (or a backup code) to sign in.

For many customers 2FA is mandatory. If you’re unsure, check with your organisation’s Motics administrator.

What you’ll need

  • A smartphone that runs an authenticator app

  • Any TOTP-based authenticator such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Authy, 1Password or Duo Mobile

How to turn on 2FA

  1. Log in to Motics.

  2. Click Settings → Security in the sidebar.

  3. In the Two-Factor Authentication section, click Enable.

  4. Launch your authenticator app and choose Add account (or tap ).

  5. Scan the QR code shown in Motics.
Can’t scan? Click Enter code manually and type the key under the QR code.

  6. Your app now shows a 6-digit code for Motics. Enter that code in Motics and click Verify.

  7. Success! Motics displays 10 single-use backup codes. Click Download or Copy and store them safely (password manager or encrypted file). You will not see them again.

2FA is now active. You’ll see Authenticator app listed under active methods in Settings → Security.

Logging in with 2FA enabled

  1. Enter your email and Motics password.

  2. When prompted, open your authenticator app and type the current 6-digit code.

  3. You’re in!

No phone? Click Use a backup code and enter one of your saved codes (each works once).

Generating new backup codes

  1. Go to Settings → Security.

  2. Next to Backup codes click Generate new codes.

  3. Confirm the action, then download or copy the new list.
Generating new codes invalidates any unused old codes.

Disabling 2FA

We strongly recommend keeping 2FA on. If you must disable it:

  1. Settings → Security.

  2. Click Disable next to Two-Factor Authentication.

  3. Enter a current 2FA code (or backup code) to confirm.

Troubleshooting

Code not accepted

  • Enter the code before it refreshes (codes change every 30 s).

  • Ensure your phone time is set to automatic/network.

Lost or wiped phone

  • Sign in with a backup code.

  • Re-enable 2FA on your new device.

Out of backup codes

  • Contact Motics.
