Chat Agent and Guideline Search

How to use Chat Agent, reference sources, Guideline Search, web search, and uploaded knowledge.

Written by Dr. Harvinder Power

Overview

Chat Agent lets you ask questions, search trusted sources, retrieve clinical guidelines, and use uploaded knowledge documents.

Guideline Search now lives inside Chat Agent. It is no longer a separate Scribe workspace page.

Who can use Chat Agent?

Chat Agent requires a verified email address and a role that can spend credits. Observers or users without credit-spending permission may be locked out.

Open Chat Agent

  1. Open the Motics OS rail.

  2. Select Chat Agent.

  3. Start a new chat.

If Chat Agent is locked, check that your email is verified, your role can spend credits, and your organisation has enough credits.

Search modes

Chat Agent can use:

  • Web search for broad or current information.

  • Targeted web search for selected sources.

  • Guideline Search for formal clinical guideline and evidence queries.

  • Knowledge Base documents and URLs that you or your organisation have uploaded.

For guideline questions, use clear wording such as:

  • What do NICE guidelines say about...

  • Find guideline recommendations for...

  • What is the evidence-based approach to...

Choose reference sources

In Chat, use the source control in the composer to choose whether the conversation should search the wider web, targeted reference sources, guideline sources, or uploaded knowledge.

If a selected source is not guideline-capable, Chat Agent may ask you to choose a formal guideline-capable source instead.

Add knowledge

Open Chat Agent > Knowledge to add documents or URLs.

Supported knowledge inputs include:

  • PDF files.

  • DOCX files.

  • URLs.

Knowledge can be personal or organisation-wide, depending on your role and organisation settings.

How Chat uses knowledge

Uploaded documents are processed into smaller chunks. When you ask a question, Chat retrieves relevant chunks and uses them to improve the response.

Always review clinical answers before using them in patient care or documentation. Chat Agent is not a substitute for professional clinical judgement.
