Why is MPB offering a Product Protection Plan?

We care about your gear as much as you do. That’s why we’re now offering a Product Protection Plan via XCover to extend our existing free MPB 6-month warranty, as well as provide supplemental coverage for accidental damage to gear from day one.

You will now be given the opportunity to purchase a Product Protection Plan at checkout for items that XCover covers. Simply select a plan to add it to your gear at checkout. Choose between one of two plans that extends your 6-month MPB warranty to a total of either 2 or 3 years of protection. Note you cannot add a protection plan after completing a purchase.

How is this different from MPB’s free 6-month warranty?

Product Protection is supplemental protection and adds to the value that we already offer with our free MPB 6-month warranty. Key features of the Product Protection Plan include:

  • Coverage for accidental damage such as spills, drops and cracks from the date your item is delivered

  • Coverage for malfunctions and defects beyond MPB’s free 6-month warranty

    • Options for a 2- or 3- year Protection Plan

      • Coverage period is a total of either 2 or 3 years total, which includes MPB’s free 6-month warranty

      • The first six months of protection is covered by MPB’s free warranty (excluding accidental damage, which is covered only by the XCover Product Protection Plan) and the remainder of the 2 or 3 year period is covered by the XCover Product Protection Plan

  • Fast repairs with free shipping

  • Hassle-free claims with zero deductibles

When can I purchase a Product Protection Plan?

The plan must be added during the checkout process — you will not be able to purchase the product or add a protection plan after purchasing a product.

How do promotional codes interact with the XCover Product Protection Plan?

Promotional codes do not apply to the price of the XCover Product Protection Plan. If you purchase a Product Protection Plan for an item, it will be covered for its full value before the promotional code is applied.

Where can I access my XCover Protection documents or start a claim?

XCover automatically creates an account when you purchase XCover Protection at checkout. From your XCover Account, you can make a claim, make changes, view the policy wording, or download your certificate and invoice.

To protect your privacy, XCover documents are not sent via mail. To view documents, wording and invoice, you will need to log in to your XCover Account.

What is covered by the Product Protection Plan?

The XCover Product Protection Plan covers accidental damage to your gear, including spills, drops and cracks from the day you receive it. It also provides coverage for malfunctions and defects beyond MPB’s free 6-month warranty for a total of either 2 or 3 years.

For specific details about your protection, please log in to your XCover Account to see what’s covered.

When does my cover start and end?

Your cover starts from the date you receive the item. Damage sustained in transit prior to receiving the item is not covered. Please check your certificate in your XCover Account.

I purchased a Product Protection Plan but I have changed my mind, how do I cancel?

If you added a Product Protection Plan to any items in an order with us and have changed your mind, you can reach out to us to request a full refund within the first 30 days of us dispatching your order.

If more than 30 days have passed then any amount returned to you will be based on a pro rata refund, minus an administration fee of $25 or 10% of the premium price (the lower of the two). You must cancel your plan with MPB directly.

What happens if I buy an item as a gift? Is the Product Protection Plan transferable?

The plan can easily be transferred. Simply log into XCover to change the name and details of the policy holder.

What happens if I return my item to MPB for a full refund?

If you return your item(s) to MPB for a full refund, we will automatically refund any applicable Product Protection premium providing this is within the 30 day period.

What’s not covered?

XCover’s Product Protection Plan may not cover:

  • Any damage caused during delivery

  • Deliberate damage to your gear

  • Pre-existing damage

  • Damage consistent with wear and tear

  • Damage caused by using your gear in a way not intended by the manufacturer

  • Damage caused by not following the product instructions

See the MPB Terms & Conditions for more.

Is Product Protection available for all products?

The XCover Protection Plan is available for products that cost $50 or more (excluding spares/repairs and batteries).

Is my XCover Protection tied to the MPB item purchased at the same time?

Yes, when you purchase an item from MPB along with the corresponding XCover Protection, the coverage is specific for that item. This means that plan can’t be substituted for another product, even if it’s the same make and model. (For example, if you buy two of the exact same camera bodies but only buy a Product Protection Plan for one of the camera bodies, the plan only applies to the body that has the serial number specified in the plan.)

How long is each item protected?

Product Protection starts once you have received your item. The first six months of protection will be covered by MPB’s free 6 month warranty (excluding accidental damage, which is covered by the XCover Product Protection Plan from date of delivery) and the remainder of the 2 or 3 year period is covered by the XCover Product Protection Plan. You can confirm the protection period in the policy wording and certification.

How do I make a claim?

The XCover claims process is quick and hassle-free, with payment or reimbursement for approved claims processed instantly. XCover automatically creates an account when you purchase XCover protection at checkout. Get started by clicking the link to the confirmation email from XCover and signing in to your XCover account. From your XCover Account, you can make a claim, make changes or view your protection wording.

I’ve forgotten my Xcover password?

If you’ve forgotten your password you can request a reset password link from the forgotten password page. Next you will be asked to enter the email address associated with your XCover Account and we’ll send you an email with a password reset link. Click the link, enter a new password and your new XCover Account details will be saved.
