Using the app without location services enabled

Updated this week

The app is now more focused around where you are and what stations, bus stops, and vehicles are near you. Because of this, we recommend turning on location services. Here are instructions for how to do this on iOS and Android.

If you prefer not to allow our app to use your location, here’s how to find the information you need:

Find arrivals at a specific subway station or bus stop

In the Subway or Bus tab, tap the magnifying glass icon in the upper-right corner. Then, search for the subway station or bus stop you’re looking for.

For buses: To see a list of all the bus stops that a route serves, enter the route name when you search it. The search results will show a list of the route’s stops.

If you use a station or stop often, tap the star icon next to its name to save it to your favorites. Bus stops with the same name have to be added to favorites separately if they are in different directions or if they’re at a separate bus stop pole.

Find your favorite stations/stops

Once you’ve saved your favorite stations or stops, you can find them quickly in the Subway or Bus tab. Tap the magnifying glass icon to see a list of your favorites. Tap on the station or stop name to open live arrivals.

Note: This will show only your list of favorite stations or stops. Subway lines and bus routes will not appear in this list. Subway line and bus route favorites are used only in the Status tab to show alerts for your favorited lines or routes.
