For Teachers: Now you are published and live on the site, what do you do next?

Updated over a month ago

As a new teacher on the platform, this article is aimed at helping you understand the basic principles of the platform and how to connect with students and teach your first lessons. Need more help? Just ask us.

We also offer platform training sessions. The sessions will walk you through the system and show you how to make the most of your profile and your time with MusicTeachers. Whether dealing with student enquiries or booking lessons into the system, it’s all covered. Please book your place on one of our free online training sessions. It is essential when building a successful profile on MusicTeachers.co.uk.

It is important to remember all lessons for students who connect with you through your MusicTeachers profile, must be booked through the systems on the platform. Alongside this simple rule, there are many features and tools to support you as you grow your business.

I'm published - how do students find me?

As a teacher, you have a profile card displayed to all students whose search criteria match you. This card is shown alongside all other teachers who meet the criteria and displays your profile picture, cover image, subjects taught, location, price and the first 150 characters of your profile text.

Students can click through to your full public profile from your card to see more. This is where they can contact you by completing their requirements in your message box.

Once sent, their message arrives in your inbox where you can respond to it. You will also be notified by SMS and email that a new student has sent you a first message.

See our article on responding to student enquiries to get hints and tips on how to respond and turn an enquiry into a student.

First Lesson Booking

After agreeing the first lesson/s with the student, you can input the lesson into the calendar either by using the First lesson/Offer product or Lesson blocks. Until they have been paid for by the student, they will show as unconfirmed in orange in your calendar.

The lesson/s you create will be displayed on your student's dashboard with a blue 'Confirm Now button. By clicking this button and following the instructions the student can purchase the lesson/s. This will turn the confirmed lesson green in your calendar - it's now ready to teach.

Important note - never teach an 'Orange' lesson unless previously agreed by the office at MusicTeachers. You risk not being paid for the lesson.

It is good practice to check your calendar and invoice regularly to ensure the details are correct.

Once purchased, the system will transfer your lesson fee onto your invoice ready to be paid directly to your bank account. Teachers are always paid within the first 5 days of the month following the month the lessons are taught (August lessons are paid in the first 5 days of September. September lessons are paid in the first 5 days of October and so on). You can view your invoice at Settings < Payments. Click on the 3 dots under the heading Actions to open or print any month's invoice.

Public profile

We’re investing in you. Our marketing efforts and spending are driving potential students to your profile. To stand out from other teachers and gain as many views of your public-facing profile as possible, ensure your profile is completed fully. This includes adding a cover picture and 5 additional images, a video, a warm and friendly profile picture, and engaging profile text that answers all the questions a new student may wish to know.
