Custom SKU vs No Custom SKU in AccelerList

A quick guide explaining the difference between using a custom SKU and not using one in AccelerList, including how SKU prefixes and auto-generated numbering work for item tracking.

Within AccelerList, you have two options when it comes to SKUs: using a custom SKU template or not using one. However, even without a custom SKU, you still need to configure how SKUs are generated.

🏷️ Using a Custom SKU

When you enable a custom SKU template, you can fully control how your MSKUs are created.

  • You can define a structured format (e.g., BOOK-USED-001)

  • SKUs are more organized and easier to track

  • Ideal for scaling and managing large inventories

⚙️ Without a Custom SKU (Important)

If you choose not to use a custom SKU, AccelerList will still require you to:

👉 Set a SKU Prefix
👉 Choose how SKU numbers are generated

For example:

  • Prefix: ABC123

  • System adds incremental numbers per batch:

    • ABC123-001

    • ABC123-002

    • ABC123-003

👉 This ensures every item still has a unique SKU, even without a custom template.

💡 Best Practice

Even if you’re not using a full custom SKU template, it’s recommended to:

  • Use a clear SKU prefix

  • Keep it consistent across batches

  • Choose incremental numbering for better tracking

✅ Summary

  • Custom SKU: Full control and structured format

  • No Custom SKU: Still requires a prefix and numbering system to generate unique SKUs

👉 Either way, SKUs are always generated—but using a structured approach will make your workflow much easier as you grow.
