How to Use SKU Prefix Instead of a Custom SKU Template

A guide explaining how to use SKU Prefix and Global Counter correctly in AccelerList to create sequential custom SKUs without manuall

This guide explains how to properly use the SKU Prefix feature in AccelerList if you want your SKUs to follow a format like:

12-0001
12-0002
12-0003

without manually editing every SKU.

This setup is especially useful for sellers using:

  • location-based SKU systems

  • sequential numbering workflows

  • custom inventory tracking formats.

❌ Common Mistake

Some users create a batch using:

Custom SKU Template

while also trying to use the Global Counter feature.

This can cause the SKU to generate incorrectly, such as:

12001
12002
12003

instead of:

12-0001
12-0002
12-0003

or may reset the numbering unexpectedly.

βœ… Recommended Setup

If you only want:

  • a location prefix

  • plus an automatically increasing SKU number

then you should NOT use a Custom SKU Template.

πŸ“¦ Step 1: Create a Batch

When creating your batch:

Under:

Use SKU Template?

Select:

No

This allows AccelerList to generate the SKU automatically using the global counter.

βš™οΈ Step 2: Set the SKU Prefix

After creating the batch:

  1. Open the batch

  2. Go to:

Workflow
  1. Find:

SKU Prefix
  1. Enter your desired location prefix

Example:

12-

πŸ”’ Step 3: Set the Global Counter

Set your Global Counter to the next SKU number you want to use.

Example:

0001

AccelerList will then automatically increase the SKU number for each item listed.

βœ… Example Result

Your generated SKUs will appear like:

12-0001
12-0002
12-0003

without needing to manually edit every item.

πŸ’‘ Best Practice

Use:

  • SKU Prefix = location code

  • Global Counter = sequential numbering

This is usually the simplest and cleanest workflow for custom location-based SKU systems.

⚠️ Important Note

If you use:

Custom SKU Template

together with the Global Counter, the SKU formatting may not behave as expected.

βœ… Summary

To properly use sequential custom SKUs:

  • do NOT use a Custom SKU Template

  • use the SKU Prefix field instead

  • let the Global Counter generate the numbering automatically

This allows AccelerList to create clean, increasing SKUs without manual editing.
