Why are there sometimes differences in calories between my nutrition tracking app (MyFitnessPal, Lifesum, YAZIO, FDDB, etc.) and the MyFitCoach app?

Here you'll learn why the calories in your nutrition tracking app (like MyFitnessPal, YAZIO, etc.) and the MFC app differ.

The discrepancy between the calories in your tracking app (e.g. MyFitnessPal, Lifesum, YAZIO) and the calories in the MFC app arises because the food tracking apps often contain food items where the macros and calories don’t match 100%.

Sometimes, the food is simply incomplete or incorrectly stored in the database, or the calculations use Prot: 4kcal, Carbs: 4kcal, and Fat: 9kcal, while the correct values are Prot: 4.1kcal, Carbs: 4.1kcal, and Fat: 9.3kcal.

Fiber and alcohol are sometimes included in the calories of a food item and sometimes not. Additionally, when fiber and alcohol are included, they are accounted for at different levels. Furthermore, the labels on food products can have a discrepancy of up to 10%.

As you can see, there are various reasons for the discrepancy. It’s important for you to know that this is not an issue. If you notice a discrepancy, you can simply increase your consumed carbohydrates so that the calorie count in the MFC app matches the calorie count in your tracking app. Alternatively, you can ignore the calories and only focus on meeting your macro targets since calories merely represent the energy content of macros.
