If you find a calorie recommendation in the MyFitCoach app to be unrealistic or strange, this can have various reasons. In this article, we want to help you understand the reasons for this and fix the situation.

Incorrect Tracking Experience Setting

The tracking experience should only be activated in the nutrition profile (Nutrition tab > "Nutrition" button at the top) if you're very familiar with your macronutrients and the associated weight changes. We've found that often incorrect or unrealistic values are entered, which ultimately distort your calorie recommendation.

For example, if you indicate that you gain 0.9 lbs per week with 220g of protein, 150g of carbohydrates, and 70g of fat (approximately 2150 calories), MyFitCoach takes these values into account for each calorie recommendation. For a male user, this would usually be pretty unrealistic. If you choose the goal "lose fat" and a loss rate of 1.55 lbs per week with this tracking experience, the calorie recommendation can be reduced so much that unrealistic recommendations result.

If you're affected, deactivate the tracking experience. Your calorie recommendation will be updated immediately after saving and should normalize over the next few weeks.

Inaccurate Calorie Tracking

If your weight is not moving in the desired direction, even though you're consuming the recommended calories, it may not be due to the calorie recommendation itself. Often, amounts of food are misjudged, leading to inaccurate calorie information. Omitting foods like snacks, sauces, dressings, or caloric drinks can also lead to deviations. These can quickly amount to several hundred calories that aren't tracked.

In such cases, it may happen that your actual consumed calories are, for example, 3500, even though only 3000 were recommended and tracked. If such deviations are constant (e.g., if you've never tracked the frying oil), it's not too bad. However, if the deviation changes constantly and your tracking is inaccurate, MyFitCoach can't make precise adjustments since it can only work with the data you enter into the MyFitCoach app.

To get the most out of the MyFitCoach app, it's important to make your tracking as accurate as possible.
