The grace period is the additional time allowed for submitting claims after the end of your benefit year. The length of this period depends on the option set by your plan sponsor: 0, 30, 60, 90, or 120 days. You can view this in your plan details on your dashboard.
The grace period always closes at midnight on the final day. For plans with a January 1st renewal, here’s how the grace period would apply:
0 days: No additional time is provided; the grace period ends immediately after the benefit year ends.
30 days: Grace period closes at midnight on January 30th.
60 days: Grace period closes at midnight on March 1st (or Feb 29th on leap years)
90 days: Grace period closes at midnight on March 30th.
120 days: Grace period closes at midnight on April 29th.
Important Note: Not all plans renew on January 1st. If your plan renews on a different date, the same rules apply, but the example dates provided here will not be accurate. Be sure to check your specific plan details to confirm your renewal date and grace period length.
Make sure to submit your claims before the grace period ends to ensure they are eligible for reimbursement!
