The service date on your HSA claim refers to the exact date* when the service or treatment was provided, not the date you paid for it or received the receipt.

For example:

  • If you visited a chiropractor on January 15th, but paid for the session on January 20th, the service date you enter on your claim should be January 15th.

  • If you attended a therapy session that spanned multiple days, such as a program or package, use the final service date or the date specified on your receipt.

TIP : *If you put the correct service date, it's more likely that your claim will be adjudicated quickly as it will not be flagged for a second look or adjustment

Why is the Service Date Important?
The service date determines which benefit year the expense falls into. This is especially crucial if your claim is near the end of your benefit year or within your grace period.

Helpful Tips:

  • Check your receipt for the service date—it’s often listed near the description of the service.

  • If you’re unsure, contact the service provider for clarification.

  • Always ensure the service date you enter in your claim details matches the details on your receipt to avoid delays in claim processing.

Accurate service dates help ensure your claims are processed smoothly and align with your plan’s rules.
