Kinesiology services can be eligible under a Health Spending Account (HSA), but just like other health-related services, the context and structure of the service matter.
To qualify for HSA reimbursement, there must be a clear practitioner-patient relationship in place. This means that the kinesiology session must be personalized, medical in nature, and delivered by a licensed Kinesiologist. Group classes, on-demand tutorials, or pre-recorded fitness videos do not qualify for reimbursement—even if they’re designed by a kinesiologist.
What makes a kinesiology claim eligible?
For a kinesiology expense to be eligible, the following conditions must be met:
The session must be conducted by a registered/licensed Kinesiologist
There must be a one-on-one or small group setting where the practitioner can tailor their guidance specifically to the patient's needs
The purpose of the session should be rehabilitative or medically necessary, not just general fitness or performance-based
The relationship must be clinical in nature, not casual instruction
Sessions must not be pre-recorded or self-led without practitioner interaction
What should the receipt include?
To submit a claim for kinesiology under your HSA, your receipt must show:
The patient’s name (i.e., the person receiving the care)
The practitioner’s full name and credentials
The date(s) of service
A description of the services provided (if it's a membership program, a breakdown of services included in the membership is required)
Proof of payment
If any of these items are missing, the claim may be denied or we may ask for more information. Always make sure the receipt clearly identifies the medical professional delivering the service and confirms that the session(s) was personalized and medically necessary.
When in doubt, check your plan details or reach out to our team at adjudicator@getmyhsa.com before booking a session.
