At myHSA, we strive to provide clarity on what you can and cannot claim under your Health Spending Account (HSA). A common question we receive is about the eligibility of menstrual items such as underwear, pads, tampons, and menstrual cups. Let's address this to keep you well-informed.

The CRA Verdict on Menstrual Items

Unfortunately, menstrual items like underwear, pads, tampons, and menstrual cups are not eligible for reimbursement under an HSA at this time. This includes all the commonly used products designed for menstrual care. This is because the current regulations that the CRA has put forward for HSAs do not classify menstrual items as eligible medical expenses. While we agree that these items are essential for many, they do not meet the specific criteria set for medical expense claims under an HSA, and since the CRA dictates these rules, we must adhere to them closely.

Keeping You Informed

We understand that navigating the ins and outs of HSAs can be tricky. That’s why we’re here to provide you with up-to-date information and support. If the above stance from the CRA ever changes, we will keep you informed!
