At myHSA, we strive to help you make the most of your Wellness Spending Account (WSA). One area that many employees find beneficial is the coverage for vitamins and supplements. Here’s what you need to know about claiming these expenses.

Eligibility for Vitamins and Supplements

Vitamins and supplements are eligible for reimbursement under your WSA if your plan includes the category "Vitamins and Supplements (Taxable)." This allows you to claim costs associated with a wide range of health and wellness products designed to support your overall well-being.

Unfortunately, vitamins and supplements are not eligible under a Health Spending Account (HSA) because they are not prescription drugs dispensed by a pharmacist.

What’s Covered?

Under the "Vitamins and Supplements (Taxable)" category, you can claim expenses for:

  • Multivitamins: General health supplements containing multiple essential vitamins and minerals.

  • Single-Vitamin Supplements: Such as Vitamin C, Vitamin D, and other individual vitamins.

  • Mineral Supplements: Including calcium, magnesium, and iron supplements.

  • Herbal Supplements: Natural products like echinacea, ginkgo biloba, and turmeric.

  • Protein Supplements: Protein powders and shakes to support fitness and nutrition goals.

  • Omega-3 and Fish Oils: Supplements that provide essential fatty acids.

  • Probiotics: Supplements that support digestive health.

  • Amino Acids: Supplements that provide essential amino acids for muscle repair and growth.

  • Prenatal Vitamins: Specialized multivitamins designed to support pregnancy and prenatal health.

*This is not all the vitamins and supplements you can claim, these are simply examples! If you have any other types of vitamins or supplements you purchase, you can claim them as well.

Ensure that your WSA includes the "Vitamins and Supplements (Taxable)" category. If you’re unsure, our support team can help you verify your plan details.
