At myHSA, we understand that finding great deals on second-hand items can be a smart way to stretch your budget. To help you make the most of your Wellness Spending Account (WSA), we allow claims for eligible items purchased second-hand from sources like Facebook Marketplace, Kijiji, Craigslist, gear swap stores, garage sales, and more. Here’s how you can take advantage of this option.

Eligibility for Second-Hand Purchases

You can claim second-hand items under your WSA if they meet the criteria for eligible categories (e.g., fitness equipment, sporting goods, etc.). Here’s what you need to do to ensure your claim is approved:

What’s Covered?

Any item that is typically listed on your dashboard in the "List of Covered Items" in the WSA (Taxable) section is eligible, even if it is purchased second-hand.

Documentation Requirements

To claim second-hand purchases, you must provide a receipt:

  1. Handwritten Receipt: The receipt should include the following details:

    • Date of Purchase: When you bought the item.

    • Item Purchased: A clear description of the item.

    • Proof of Payment: Confirmation that payment was made (cash, e-transfer, etc.).

  2. Screenshot of Online Ad: If you purchased the item through an online marketplace (optional but helpful)
