Infertility treatments can be a complex and challenging journey, but understanding what services are covered by your Health Spending Account (HSA) through myHSA can ease some of the financial burdens. Here’s a breakdown of various services and their eligibility:

1. Consultations

  • Fertility & Family Building Consultations, Second Opinion Consultations: Essential initial steps, these consultations involve discussing your medical history, treatment options, and forming a personalized plan. They are eligible for HSA coverage if the services and appointments are conducted by a Reproductive Endocrinologist, Registered Nurse, naturopath, or other qualified doctor.

2. Fertility Testing

  • Hormones Profile, Diagnostic Ultrasounds, Semen Analysis, Dutch Tests etc: These tests are crucial for diagnosing infertility issues. They include blood or urine tests to check hormone levels, ultrasounds to examine reproductive organs, and semen analysis to assess sperm health. All these tests are eligible for HSA coverage if accompanied by a doctor’s requisition or if administered and analyzed by the clinic or practitioner. Self-analyzed home tests are unfortunately not eligible.

3. Fertility Treatments

  • Cycle Monitoring, IUI, IVF, Reciprocal IVF, Frozen Embryo Transfer: Treatments like Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) and In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) are common fertility treatments. Reciprocal IVF involves one partner’s egg being fertilized and the other carrying the pregnancy. Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT-A) checks embryos for genetic abnormalities before transfer. These treatments are eligible for HSA coverage without a prescription, provided they are administered by a medical practitioner who's credentials are on the receipt provided.

4. Fertility Preservation

  • Egg Freezing, Sperm Freezing: For those looking to preserve fertility for future use, egg and sperm freezing are viable options. These services are eligible for HSA coverage if performed by a qualified fertility lab with the medical practitioner’s credentials listed. The service date you can use for claims is the date the preservation takes place.

5. Naturopathic & Wellness Care

  • Consultations, Acupuncture, Massage, Follow-up Appointments: Complementary treatments like acupuncture, Massage etc. can support fertility by reducing stress and improving overall wellness. These services are eligible for HSA coverage if performed by a licensed naturopath, RMT, or acupuncturist.

Understanding the eligibility of these services can help you better navigate your fertility journey and make the most of your HSA benefits. If you have any questions at all, please reach out to support@getmyhsa.com and we'd be happy to help!

Sending all the baby wishes to you during this time!
