This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to configure your products in LogiwaIO for seamless and compliant shipping of hazardous materials via UPS.

What is this feature for?

This feature integrates LogiwaIO directly with the UPS shipping API to automate the creation of compliant shipping labels for products classified as hazardous materials (hazmat). By correctly configuring your products, you can ensure that all necessary hazmat information is accurately transmitted to UPS, streamlining your fulfillment process and maintaining regulatory compliance.

What you need to get started

Before you begin, please ensure you have the following:

  1. A UPS Carrier Account Enabled for Hazmat Shipping: Your contract with UPS must permit the shipment of hazardous materials. Please contact your UPS representative to confirm your account status.

Configuration: Setting Up Your Products

To enable automated hazmat shipping for an item, you must populate the dedicated hazmat fields in its Product Master record.

Step 1: Navigate to the Product

  1. Go to the Product module within your LogiwaIO account.

  2. Find a product you need to configure and go to Advanced > Hazmat Information

Step 2: Populate the Hazmat Fields

Within the product details, locate the " Hazmat Information" section and fill in the following fields. The system will map this information directly to the UPS API when generating a shipping label.

Field Name

Short Explanation & Purpose

Hazmat Type

Specifies the type of regulated commodity. This determines the level of regulation applied. Possible values include BATTERY , FR (Fully Regulated), LQ (Limited Quantity), EQ (Excepted Quantity), LR (Lightly Regulated)

Hazmat Container Type

Specifies the type of packaging used to hold the hazardous material. Examples include Drum, Box, Cylinder, etc.

Hazmat Proper Shipping Name

The standard, official name used to identify the hazardous material as specified by regulations. This must match the MSDS exactly (e.g., "Paint").

Hazmat UN/ID Number

The unique four-digit United Nations or Identification Number assigned to the hazardous substance (e.g., "UN1263"). This is a universal identifier.

Hazmat Class Division

The hazard class (e.g., "3" for flammable liquids) or division that the material falls under, indicating the primary type of hazard it poses.

Hazmat Quantity

The total quantity of the hazardous material within the package.

Hazmat Unit of Measurement

The unit of measurement for the hazmat quantity (e.g., KG, Liters).

Important: The accuracy of this data is critical. Always refer to the product's official Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) to ensure all fields are entered correctly.

Mapping to the UPS API

LogiwaIO handles the technical integration for you. The fields you populate in the Product Master are automatically mapped to the corresponding fields in the UPS shipping API. When you create a shipment for a configured product, LogiwaIO transmits this data to UPS, which then returns a fully compliant shipping label.

You can learn the detailed field-to-field mapping by asking our support team.

How it Works in Practice

  1. Configure: Set up your product's hazmat data once in the Product Master.

  2. Create Order: Create a customer order with the configured hazmat product.

  3. Generate Label: When you process the order and select UPS as the carrier, LogiwaIO automatically sends the hazmat data. The UPS label printed will include all necessary hazmat declarations and markings.

If you have any questions or require assistance during the configuration process, please contact our support team.
