Auto-Update No-Difference Count Lines

Automatically update inventory for zero-difference count lines without manual supervisor action.

Overview

In high-volume warehousing operations, cycle count jobs frequently contain lines where the counted quantity matches the system quantity exactly β€” confirming inventory is accurate with zero difference. By default, supervisors must manually trigger Update Inventory for every line, including those with no difference. The Auto-Update No-Difference Count Lines setting eliminates this step for perfect-count lines, automatically updating inventory the moment counting completes and leaving only lines with genuine discrepancies open for supervisor review.

When To Use It

Enable this setting when:

  • Your warehouse runs high-volume cycle count jobs where a large proportion of lines consistently return zero difference

  • You want supervisors to focus exclusively on lines with real discrepancies rather than processing clean lines manually

  • You want to reduce count plan closure time without compromising inventory integrity or audit traceability

How to Enable

  1. Navigate to the Job Types screen

  2. Select the Count Job Type you want to configure, or click Create New Job Type and select Cycle Count.

  3. Go to the Settings tab.

  4. Locate the Auto-Update No-Difference Count Lines toggle and set it to Yes.

  5. Click Save.

The toggle defaults to No for all existing and new Count Job Types. It must be enabled per Job Type β€” enabling it on one Job Type does not affect any other.

πŸ’‘ Tip: Hover over the β“˜ icon next to the toggle label for an inline explanation of how the setting works.

How It Works

Once enabled on a Count Job Type, the system evaluates each count line individually as soon as counting completes for that line.

A "no-difference" count line is determined by comparing Approved Stock Qty directly to Approved Count Qty. When these two values are exactly equal, the count line is treated as no-difference and the auto-update is triggered.

For a Location Count: When the operative completes counting a location, the system checks whether Approved Count Qty equals Approved Stock Qty for that location line. If they match, inventory is updated automatically for that line.

For a SKU Count: When the operative completes counting all locations for a SKU, the system checks whether Approved Count Qty equals Approved Stock Qty for that SKU line. If they match, inventory is updated automatically.

If any difference exists: the line remains in Count Completed status and is held for supervisor review, the Create Recount action, or the Update Inventory action as normal.

Visibility & Audit Trail

Lines that are automatically updated are clearly distinguishable from lines updated by a supervisor. The Updated By column in the Location Details and SKU Details views shows the system user as the source of the update for auto-updated lines, rather than a supervisor's name.

Common Questions & Edge Cases

  • What happens if some lines have zero difference and others have a discrepancy in the same job?

Each line is evaluated independently. Lines with zero difference are auto-updated immediately. Lines with any discrepancy remain in Count Completed for supervisor review. Both can coexist in the same count plan.

  • Does this setting apply to both Location Count and SKU Count?

Yes. The auto-update trigger works for both count types when the Job Type has this setting enabled.

  • Will enabling this on one Job Type affect other Job Types?

No. The setting is configured per Job Type. Enabling it on Job Type A has no effect on Job Type B, even in the same warehouse.

  • Is no-difference determined by the Difference column in the grid?

No. A no-difference line is determined by a direct comparison of Approved Stock Qty to Approved Count Qty. The Difference column is a display field only and is not used to trigger the auto-update.
