Overview

Wave rules are a powerful automation tool in Logiwa IO that can automatically generate cycle count jobs based on a schedule you define. This eliminates the need for manual count plan creation for your recurring inventory audits. This guide explains how to create and configure a wave rule specifically for cycle counts.

Prerequisites

Before creating a wave rule, you must first have a Job Type configured for cycle counts. The wave rule uses the settings within the selected Job Type to determine how the count jobs will be created and batched.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Navigate to Wave Rules

To begin, navigate to the Wave Rules screen. If you have trouble locating the screen, please use the main search bar. Click on Create New in the upper-right corner and select Cycle Count from the available Operation Types.

  • Select Cycle Count from the available Operation Types.

Step 2: Define General Settings

  • In the General tab, you will set the primary parameters for the wave rule:

Field

Description

Rule Set Name*

Enter a descriptive name (e.g., "Weekly A-Zone Count" or "Monthly High-Value SKU Count"). Required field.

Warehouse*

Select the warehouse where this rule will apply. Required field.

Count Type*

Choose the basis for the count, required field.:

  • SKU count: Creates count tasks for specific products across all their locations in the warehouse.

  • Location count: Creates count tasks for all inventory within specific locations.

Lock Locations

  • When enabled, all locations in this count plan will be locked in the system until the count plan is completed.

  • When disabled, the location being counted is locked until counting is completed for that location.

Select Job Types*

  • Select the Job Type(s) from the list of job types connected to the selected warehouse. You must select at least one job type to create a wave rule.

  • You may also select more than one job type for the wave rule; in that case, the wave rule will run for the first job type first, then the second.

  • Placement of job types can be changed by selecting the 3-bars icon and dragging and dropping.

  • Required field.

Step 3: Define Selection Criteria

In the Selection tab, you define which locations or products the wave should include.

  1. Click Add Filter to specify the criteria. For example, for a location-based count, you could filter by Location Zone or Aisle. For a SKU-based count, you could filter by Product Group or Client.

Click Next to continue.

Step 4: Set the Schedule

  • In the Schedule tab, you determine when the wave rule will run automatically. Please note that the schedule operates based on the time zone visible in your User Preferences.

    1. Select the Days of the week for the wave to run.

    2. Under Time, use the Set Time Period option to define a frequency (e.g., every 4 hours) between a start and end time. Alternatively, use Set Specific Time to set exact times.

    Click Next to proceed.

Step 5: Assign Jobs

In the Assign tab, decide how the created count jobs will be assigned to warehouse staff.

  • Add to Job Pool: The jobs will be unassigned and available for any authorized user to select from the mobile app's job pool.

  • Assign to User Roles: The jobs will be assigned to all users who have the selected role(s).

  • Assign to Users: The jobs will be assigned only to the specific users selected.

Click Save to finalize and activate your wave rule.
