Guidance to fix access issues when joining an event on Natter

If you see the guidance popup shown below, Natter is having trouble accessing your camera and microphone. This is caused by one of two issues:

  1. Access permissions: You did not give Natter access to your camera and mic when Natter requested it, or you have settings in place preventing Natter from requesting access

  2. Camera and mic are already in use: Your camera or mic are being used by another video application (like Microsoft Teams) or video conferencing website (like Google Meet)

To fix both issues:

  1. Close your browser and full open browser tabs and close any open video applications (e.g. Microsoft Teams); and

  2. Follow the guidance below in accordance with which browser you are using to fix any camera and microphone access permissions:


Fixing access permissions: Edge

To confirm you have the right settings, click on the URL below or copy and paste this into your Microsoft Edge address bar:

You should reach a settings page that looks like this:

You should make sure underneath both "Camera" and "Microphone" that the setting is set to "Ask first". If this text is not shown, click on the > button to change the setting:

Once you have confirmed these settings, restart your browser in full (making sure to close all open browser tabs). Re-join the event using the URL link provided in the calendar invite.


Fixing access permissions: Chrome

Firstly, ensure you are on any Natter webpage. You will know this as you will see the text "natter.co" included in the address bar, as shown in the screenshot below.

Click on the button to the immediate left of the address bar, as shown above. A series of options will appear, including "Site settings" - click this.

This will take you to the settings page for app.natter.co, as shown above. Confirm you have both Camera and Microphone selected as "Allow".

Once you have confirmed these settings, restart your browser in full (making sure to close all open browser tabs). Re-join the event using the URL link provided in the calendar invite.
