Adding a bank account

To receive payments via the card reader, you need to register a bank account within Settings > Online Payments (unless you have already). This is just to set up the bank account and you do not need to enable online payments.

Once you have added a primary account, you can optionally add additional accounts (e.g. for self-employed staff):

Additional bank accounts are charged (£5 | €6) per month to the extra account. No additional card readers are required.

Within Settings > Online Payments > [Settings] (at the top-right), at the bottom of the page, you can assign payments with different staff to the appropriate bank/merchant account:

Setting up the reader and app

Once you have ordered and received our card reader, fully charge it and download the Card Payments app on your mobile device via one of these links:

Within Settings > In-Store Card Reader, make sure to enable the feature (and optionally tips):

Then follow these steps:

  1. Turn on the reader.

  2. Enable Bluetooth and Location Services on your mobile device.

  3. Open the Card Payments app and register your shop details. Allow permission for Location Services if prompted as it is required for the app to function.

  4. Tap [Connect to Reader] to find the reader (beginning with 'WPC...') and pair the two via Bluetooth. The first connection may update the reader's software which can take 5-15 minutes to complete.
Note for Samsung users: When the software is updating, please keep both the device and reader charging until completion.

It should appear like so once connected:

For Android (e.g. Samsung) users: Please check the below in your device settings to ensure that payment links open with the Card Payments app:

Settings > Apps > Card Payments > Set as default > Open supported links (toggle ON) > Supported web addresses > nearcut.com | bookinbeautiful.com (toggle ON)

These options/steps may differ slightly depending on the manufacturer/model.

Taking payment

For a walk-in customer, create a manual appointment so that there can be a payment record to process.

With the app and reader connected, go to an appointment/sale record on the booking system to take payment for and tap [Take card payment].

If the payment does not open in the app

  1. For Android (e.g. Samsung) users, please check the below in your device settings to ensure that payment links open with the Card Payments app:

Settings > Apps > Card Payments > Set as default > Open supported links (toggle ON) > Supported web addresses > nearcut.com | bookinbeautiful.com (toggle ON)

These options/steps may differ slightly depending on the manufacturer/model.

  2. If you added the booking system as a home screen app on your device, please use the system within your web browser app (i.e. Chrome, Safari) instead. You can save it as a bookmark/favourite for easy access.

Home screen apps have limited functionality and may be unable to open payment links with the Card Payments app.

You can then capture payment using the reader:

If successful, you will see 'Approved' on the reader and 'Payment Successful' on the app. The appointment/sale record should auto-update with an in-store payment line (if not, just refresh the page):

If the payment was not captured, please try again. Incomplete attempts may appear as pending transactions on the customer's bank statement, but will be automatically reversed after two working days.

Additional notes

  • Bluetooth pairing is 1-to-1 so if a reader is shared between multiple staff members, you could link it with for example a shared tablet in the shop. If they are using their own mobile devices, just make sure to unpair/disconnect after a transaction via the app:

Alternatively, you can consider getting multiple card readers.

  • It is recommended to keep the reader's battery above 50% and charge it at the end of each working day to preserve its performance.

  • Please retain the reader's original packaging should you need to exchange or return it at some point.
