Nearo uses live video to help you and the other participant see each other clearly during a session, with simple controls available before and during a call.
How video works in Nearo
Nearo video is live and real time, meaning your camera feed is only shared while you are actively in a session.
Video is not recorded or stored unless recording is explicitly enabled.
Your camera can be turned on or off at any time, and you can switch cameras if more than one is available on your computer.
Adjusting your video before you enter a session
You can set up your camera before the other person sees you.
As a host, adjust your video after you open your Room and before you admit a guest.
As a guest, adjust your video before you join a Room through the web.
As a guest, click Join Room when you are done to enter the Room.
Adjusting video settings during a call
While you are in an active session, video controls are available directly on the call screen.
You can manage your video during a call using the camera controls:
Click the camera icon to turn your video on or off at any time.
Click the down arrow next to the camera icon to open your camera settings.
Select a different camera if more than one camera is connected to your computer.
Adjusting video settings in the Nearo Desktop app
You can also manage your video before or during a session using the Video button in the Nearo Desktop app.
Use the Video button to control your camera:
Click the Video button with the camera icon to turn your camera on or off.
Click the down arrow next to the Video button to open your camera settings.
Choose a different camera if more than one is available.
Hiding your self-view
Hosts and guests can hide their own video from themselves. This feature is called Hide Self-View.
To turn it on, do either of the following:
Hover over your photo and click the eye icon.
Click the three dots and select Hide Self-View.
A banner that says Self-View appears in the video panel while it is turned on.
To see your video again, do either of the following:
Click Show on the banner in the video panel.
Click the three dots and select Show Self-View.
ℹ️ When Hide Self-View is turned on, you cannot see your own video, but the other person on the call can still see you.
Moving your video as a guest
Guests can position their video on any part of the screen. For example, you can place your video right under your webcam at the top so it is easier to make eye contact.
Click the three dots.
In the Video Position section, select Top, Bottom, Left, or Right.
Hiding the controls
You can move the controls out of the way while you work.
Click the up arrow below the videos to hide the controls.
🔔 If your camera does not appear as an option, make sure Nearo has permission to access your camera in your computer's system settings.
If you continue to have trouble with video, contact Nearo support and include your operating system and the camera you are using.
