Starting a Nearo Room

How to open your Nearo Room, share your Room link, and admit a guest to your session.

Nearo Rooms let you run a live one-to-one session using your personal Room link, so guests can join from any device without an account.

How Rooms work for hosts

Every host in Nearo has a dedicated Room that belongs to them.

Your Room link stays the same and can be shared with anyone you want to meet with. Guests can join from a computer, tablet, Chromebook, or phone using a web browser β€” no Nearo account or app required.

You must be in your Room before a guest can join. When a guest arrives, you will see a notification to admit them.

Opening your Room

To start your Room and make it available for guests:

  • Open the Nearo desktop app.

  • Click Open Room.

  • Your Room is now open and you can admit guests.

πŸ”” Guests cannot enter your Room until you have clicked Open Room and are present in the session.

Sharing your Room link

You can invite someone to join your Room by sharing your Room link.

  • Find your Room link in the Nearo desktop app or Dashboard.

  • Send the Room link to your guest β€” they can click it to open your Room in their browser.

πŸ’‘ Your Room link does not change, so you can share the same one with students or guests repeatedly.

πŸ’‘ The Nearo Dashboard also includes ready-to-send invitation text for students, families, and guests. See Sharing a Room invitation from Nearo.

Admitting a guest

When a guest joins your Room, they enter a waiting area. You will see how many people are waiting from the participant icon.

  • Click the participant icon to see who is waiting.

  • Select Admit [Name] to let them into the Room.

  • Select Decline [Name] to remove them from the waiting list.

πŸ’‘ For more guest controls β€” including switching between guests, removing a guest mid-session, and ending the session for everyone β€” see Managing guests in a Nearo Room.

What you can do in a Room

As the host, you have access to all standard session features:

  • Audio and video with your guest

  • Share your screen so the guest can see what you are working on

  • Allow your guest to control your screen using remote control

πŸ”” In a Room, only the host can share a screen. Guests can see and control the host's screen but cannot share their own.

Closing your Room

To end the session and close your Room:

  • Click Close Room in the Nearo desktop app.

  • The session will end for both you and your guest.
