Drawing on a shared screen in Nearo

How to draw on the screen while it is being shared, change colors, clear drawings, and exit drawing mode.

While a screen is being shared in a Nearo session, both people can draw directly on it.

Drawings are shown to both people and are not part of the screen itself, so they never end up in your documents or apps. They stay until someone clears them or the share ends, and they are not saved.

Drawing on a screen someone else is sharing

You can draw while remote control is on. If the person sharing turns remote control off, drawing mode closes and the pencil disappears.

  • In the Nearo desktop app, click the pencil in the controls bar (Start drawing). The controls bar is the dark gray strip along the bottom of the call window, and the pencil is next to the Remote Control | Click Animation switch. In the web app, click the pencil in the bottom right of the shared screen (Draw on screen). If the video tiles are at the left or right of the shared screen, the web app's drawing buttons are in a panel under the tiles instead.

  • Color dots and a trash can open beside the pencil. Click a color dot to change your drawing color.

  • Click the trash can next to the color dots (Clear my drawings) to remove your own drawings. It does not remove the other person's drawings.

  • Click the pencil again (Stop drawing) to leave drawing mode and control the shared screen again.

💡 On an iPad or phone, see Using a shared screen on an iPad or phone.

Drawing on your own shared screen

  • While you are sharing, click the pencil (Draw on your screen). In the full window it is in the controls bar, after the mouse-pointer button. In the small floating window, it is in a small row of buttons under the video tiles.

  • A small toolbar appears on your shared screen with a handle to move it, the colors, a trash can and Exit.

  • Click a color to change your drawing color. Your choice is kept if you stop and start drawing again during the session.

  • Click the trash can or right-click to clear drawings.

  • Press Esc or click Exit to stop drawing.

Managing everyone's drawings while you share

  • To remove everyone's drawings when you are not in drawing mode, click the trash can next to the pencil (Clear all drawings), in the controls bar or in the row of buttons under the video tiles in the small floating window.

  • To turn off your guest's ability to draw, click the mouse-pointer button, which sits just before the pencil. This also clears your guest's drawings from the screen.

  • Drawing ends automatically when you stop sharing.

Drawing on a shared screen versus using a notebook

Drawing marks up whatever is on the shared screen at the time, and the marks are not kept.

To write or draw on a blank page that saves automatically and stays in your account, open a notebook instead. See Using notebooks in Nearo.
