The search form in the Overview allows you to search in both the Archive and Monitoring.

In NewtonOne, you can search using the following methods or their combinations:

  1. Full-Text Query (keywords, phrases, and logical operators)

  2. Entities (smart search using categories such as industries, people, organizations, locations, products, and positions without the need for a full-text query)

  3. Filters (apply filters for date range, media type, source, sentiment, and many other criteria)

Fulltext search - basic rules:

  1. Multiple words entered in the search bar will be searched together within a single article, regardless of their distance from each other

  2. Case-insensitivity applies to individual words; however, for phrases, include variations with capital letters within words

  3. Common words are automatically inflected by the system; for new or foreign words, list all forms using the OR operator

  4. Operators must be entered in uppercase letters

  5. For complex queries, you can use parentheses

  6. For an exact query (preserving case and word forms), use the CTRL Q command

Detailed help for searching with boolean operators can be found here.

Entities

The search feature includes a smart autocomplete tool that allows you to search for People, Organizations, Industries, Products, Locations, or Positions in the form of Entities with just one click. Entities are a helpful tool for finding industry-specific information or refining your search results.

Simply start typing the word you are interested in into the search bar. The autocomplete tool will automatically display entities that match your input. You can then select the entity that fits your needs.

Entities can be added using the following options:

  • Must (AND) – Results must include articles with the selected entity.

  • Not (NOT) – Results will exclude articles containing the selected entity.

  • Should (OR) – Results may include articles with the selected entity.

Entities can also be combined with a full-text query. When used together, Entities are always in an AND relationship with the full-text query. This means that Entities refine the results of the searched keywords or vice versa.

Filtres

Search filters simplify and refine your results. Basic options are available in the main menu below the search bar, while additional options can be accessed in the Advanced Filter section.

What criteria can you filter by?

Date Range – Specify an exact date and time or use quick-select options. You can also choose between:

  • Published – Filters based on the publication date of articles.

  • Imported – Filters based on the date the article was added to NewtonOne.

Media Type – Filter by the types of media activated in your service.

Author – Start typing an author’s name, and NewtonOne will suggest matching authors. Next to the author’s name, you can choose to:

  • Include – Focus on articles by the selected author.

  • Exclude – Eliminate articles by the selected author from the results.
You can add multiple authors or filter by a predefined custom list of authors.

Source – Start typing a source or program name, and NewtonOne will suggest matches. You can also filter by a predefined custom list of sources or Top Sources.

Country – This option is available if your service includes data from multiple countries. Easily filter results by the origin country of the articles.

Article Type – Refine results by the type of article you are interested in (e.g., News, Post, Comment, Share, Validated Transcript, Automated Transcript, Press Release, or Custom Article). For example, if irrelevant results from automated transcripts (e.g., from half-hour broadcast blocks) clutter your topic, you can exclude them by selecting other types.

Sentiment – Articles are assigned an automatic sentiment, which you can adjust based on your evaluation. Sentiment filtering is also available directly in the search form.

Advanced Filter – In Advanced Filter, you can view all available filters. Active filters are displayed in the bottom panel, where you can also remove all settings. A green dot next to a filter category indicates that a filter is applied.
