Why am I failing the fit check or getting poor data quality?

Troubleshoot contact issues for accurate sensing.

Smartbuds need good contact with your ear to read brain signals accurately. If the connection isn’t solid, you may see a failed fit check or poor data quality during sleep. This usually means the buds aren’t sitting quite right in your ears, or that it's time to replace your wings and/or tips.

Here are a few things to try:

  • Adjust the position: Gently twist or reposition the bud so the sensors make closer contact with your skin.

  • Switch sizes: Try a different wing or tip size. Everyone’s ears are unique, and a size change can improve the seal and sensor contact.

  • Check cleanliness: Make sure your ears and the sensor surfaces are clean and dry. Oils, hair, or wax buildup can interfere with signal quality.

  • Confirm placement: Double-check that you’ve matched the left and right buds correctly—this ensures the sensors align as designed.

  • Secure fit before sleep: If one earbud tends to loosen overnight, try a slightly larger wing for extra stability.

If you’ve tried all of the above and are still seeing poor data quality—particularly if quality was good in the past—it could mean that your wings/tips have worn down and it's time to replace them.
