This article describes how to utilize Nimble's automatic tagging functionality

When evaluating job applications, a candidate's suitability for a role is frequently determined by their responses to simple yes/no questions. Take, for instance, the question, “Are you licensed to work in this state?” If a candidate answers “No,” it's clear that they may not meet the qualifications for the position.

With Nimble’s auto tagging feature, you can automate this process by tagging candidates based on their responses to specific questions. This not only saves valuable time but also ensures that you quickly identify the best-fit candidates for your roles.

Create candidate tags

In order to use Nimble’s auto tagging functionality, Super Admin must first establish candidate tags. To do so, click your name in the top-right corner, click “Settings,” and scroll down to the “Candidate tags'' section. Here, you can create tags appropriate for different screening questions. You may also choose to talk with your talent team or select hiring managers to identify a shortlist of candidate tags to apply. For a more in-depth guide on candidate tags, refer here.

Create auto tagging questions

Now that your candidate tags have been established, you are ready to use the auto tagging functionality to automatically assign those tags to candidates based on their responses to application questions.

To begin, create a "Yes/No" or "Statement Checkbox" question, either within a question set or directly on a job posting. Note that auto tagging functionality is presently available for these two question types. Alternatively, you can edit an existing “Yes/No” or “Statement Checkbox” question to include auto tagging.

Once you have created or edited one of these two question types, within the modal, click “Enable Automatic Tags”:

Select the tag(s) you would like to be applied given the candidate’s responses. Note that, if appropriate, you may select a tag to be applied for “Yes” responses and no action to be taken for “No” responses, or vice versa.

As an example of assigning tags for both “yes” and “no” responses, consider the question “Are you licensed to teach in [state]?” For this question, you may create auto tagging rules such that a candidate is assigned the “Licensed to teach in [state]” tag for a “yes” response and the “Not licensed to teach in [state]” tag for a “no” response.

Alternatively, you may create a yes/no question which asks, “Do you require visa sponsorship?” If the candidate responds “yes”, they are assigned the “Requires visa sponsorship” tag; if they respond “no”, no tag is assigned.

Configure your tags as described above; when finished, click “Save”:

Upon saving, you will see an indication noting that automatic tags have been enabled. When you are satisfied with the question, click “Add Item.” Repeat this process for as many auto tagging-enabled questions as you would like.

Filter candidates using auto tagging tags

When candidates complete their applications and respond to application questions, tagging rules will be automatically applied according to the rules you have established. Note that tags are applied only on new candidate applications and will not be applied retroactively to candidates who answered that question before the auto tag was created.

Once tags are created, users with applicable visibility permissions for one or more tags will see a new Candidate Tags filter added to the sidebar filter on the left-hand side of the candidates list and the candidates > view by posting page.

You and your hiring managers can use these filters to expedite the screening process in a few ways:

  • By removing ineligible candidates from the hiring pool in bulk (we suggest doing a bulk status change to an archived status)

  • By emailing candidates in bulk based on their answers to specific questions (e.g., to notify candidates that the position they applied for is not eligible for visa sponsorship, but another position is and you would like them to apply); and

  • By focusing on candidates with the best-fit qualifications for your organization
