Tasks lie at the core of NoPlex, so it's important that we understand them before going further. Let's go!
What are Tasks?
A Task is simply something that you would like to do or need to do. Pretty simple. NoPlex takes Tasks to a whole new level, though.
There are two types of Tasks in NoPlex:
Individual Tasks
These are Tasks that are completely independent and self-contained. These can be created manually, by recurring Tasks, or by Routines.
Recurring Tasks
These are mechanisms for creating the same Task multiple times based on a schedule. Recurring Tasks are not actually Tasks themselves; instead, think of them as Task factories that create Tasks based on a schedule. This is important because — for instance — archiving a recurring Task doesn't erase any of the Tasks it's already created.
In real life, our Task needs don't always align cleanly with common patterns (e.g. every other week). NoPlex features the best task scheduling system you'll find anywhere. When creating a recurring Task, you'll be presented with an intuitive, high-detail experience that lets you schedule Task creation with boundless freedom and creativity.
When creating a recurring Task, you add due dates and Horizon dates that are relative to the date that any new Task is created. For instance, you can have a recurring Task that creates a "clean bedroom" Task each Saturday; you want it to appear on your Horizon on Saturday, but you want to give yourself the entire weekend to perform the task, in case you have a busy Saturday. You can set the Horizon date to the day the Task is created and the due date to the day after the Task is created.
Please Note: In NoPlex, Tasks cannot be part of other Tasks (as you might find in professional project management software) — the experience is purposely simple and each task is individual and distinct.
Accessing Your Task View
Your Task view is accessed via the second icon from the left on the mobile app's bottom menu and the second from the top on the web's left-hand navigation menu.
Creating a Task
In the mobile app, click the Big Plus button while you're on the Task list view. Note that if you're currently viewing only recurring Tasks, this will automatically default to creating a recurring Task.
If you're on a different view (e.g. Routines), you can press and hold the button in the mobile app to choose a Task or recurring Task.
On the web, simply click the Big Plus button and select the Task type (individual or recurring) that you'd like to create.
Navigating the Task Views
Tasks can be seen in the Task list view (web and mobile) or the Task detail view (also web and mobile).
Getting the Most out of Tasks
Tasks are like a fancy camera. You can probably figure out how to use it for basic things in a matter of minutes, but if you take a little extra time to read the manual, you'll be amazed at what it can do.
Part of what makes NoPlex incredible is what we call experiential intelligence — using AI in small and subtle ways to augment your experience. But for NoPlex's experiential intelligence to do its job, you need to add the right information to Tasks.
For example, NoPlex sorts your Task list so that the ones that are due the soonest are seen first. And in your Horizon, you're greeted with an insights box which will let you know if you seem to have missed any Tasks that are due today or overdue:
These features can't do their job unless you take the moment to add a due date to the Task. You'll learn more about due dates shortly, but for now...
What Makes a Great Task?
We're glad you asked. Extra vanilla extract and almond paste. Wait, no.
Add the details. Add due dates, mark them important when they're important, etc. Add them to relevant collections.
Use your Supporter. Unless they're a real jerk, they won't mind. Accountability and visibility goes a long way.
Think small. "Build a shed" isn't a Task — it's a goal or project. A Task should be something that you can reasonably accomplish in a day. If that's not possible, break it down further. NoPlex helps you to manage Chaos on a day-by-day basis.
Think about future-you. Don't create a Task called "Do that thing" and hope that you'll remember what that means a week from now.
Assume you'll forget. If something positively needs to get done, add a Horizon date to it when you create it; don't assume you'll remember to do so later.
What's Next?
Tasks. You get it. Let's learn about the Horizon.
