How to use the Beatbox feature

This article is aimed at helping using the Beatbox feature, how it works and what it can achieve.

Updated over 2 months ago

One of the new features in the New Handyfeeling is the ability to create simple scripts directly from the webpage and either play them or download them for use later.

While Beatbox isn't a fully robust tool to script videos with, it is great at teaching how Scripts work and works great for those custom "on the fly" script needs.

Before we start, make sure to connect with your Handy via the connection key.

Where is the connection button?

Now that you are connected, let's learn how to use this new feature

Where can I find Beatbox?

With your device connected and back on the main page, you can find the Beatbox option on the left side menu, under the Apps sections.

Once you click there, a new window will options with the interface.

Once here, you can start clicking on cells in this grid to create a point of movement, once the script starts it will seamlessly move the arm to the mapped cells and then loop.

Below you can see an example of a script created with the default configurations.

This script will move the arm fast on the way up and just a bit slower on the way down before waiting for the script to loop. Cells close to the top represent the highest point the arm can go on a script, and cells close to the bottom represent the lowest point.

Below, you can see how the script would look like if it was a graph as well as a visualization of the top and bottom

You can also create playlists of multiple beats you create, whenever you finish creating a beat, you can click on Save as new or Save.

  • Save will save the current beat to the current step on the playlist

  • Save as new will save the current beat to the next step on the playlist.

Once you save, you can click on Clear to start a new beat to add to the playlist.

Saved beats are shown directly below the buttons, and you can add the section to the playlist, delete that specific section or load that beat into the editor for you edit it again by hovering your mouse over that specific section, below you can find examples of each button.

When you are happy with the playlist you created, you can click on Play Playlist and see the full script play out based on the beats you added to it.

You can further configure the script by clicking the beat settings toggle, this will open a new menu below with more options for you to further configure the scripts with stroke zone, height modifiers, time resolution, cell configuration and time per cell.

You can also click on Settings to see other options related to display of the editor, clear playlist and beats or even fully reset the app.

Right below that, you can find the debug section where you can find information to help the support team diagnose any bugs you find in the app.

The last section you will be able to find the Export and Import options, this area lets you find options for beats, playlists and even import one in case you want to edit a previous creation.

  • Download Beat Script

    • This option lets you download that specific beat you are working on

  • Download Playlist Script

    • This option lets you download your entire playlist

  • Export Beats

    • This option lets you export the currently saved beats for editing later

Once you are happy with your script you can press Play to sent it to your Handy and play the script, at which moment the controls will start showcasing which step of the script you are on.
