Can I cast Ompractice classes to my TV?

Yes, you can cast Ompractice classes to your TV! While our live classes are designed so you don't need to be focusing on a screen, we know that some students like having class on the big screen!

Here’s how you can cast your classes to your TV from various devices:

Important Note: Regardless of how you cast the class, you will still need to have your camera on so your teacher can see you – we recommend that you have the camera/device generally under the TV screen a few feet away from you, and your mat facing perpendicularly (like a T). (If you need us to do a quick tech setup zoom, we're happy to do so!)

Hand-wavy caveat: while we've attempted to share for a range of devices, technology can be fickle! You might find you need some troubleshooting to get the set up just right – let us know, and we're happy to try to troubleshoot.

1. Casting from Android Devices:

  • Chromecast:

    1. Make sure your Android device and Chromecast are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

    2. Sign into Ompractice and join your class - the zoom link will open on your phone as long as you have Zoom installed.

    3. Swipe down from the top of your screen to open the Quick Settings menu.

    4. Tap the “Cast” icon and select your Chromecast device.

    5. Your screen will be mirrored on your TV.

  • Smart TV with Built-in Chromecast: Follow the same steps as above to cast directly to your smart TV.

2. Casting from iOS Devices (iPhone/iPad/Laptops):

  • Apple TV or AirPlay-Compatible TV:

    1. Make sure your iOS device and Apple TV (or AirPlay-compatible TV) are on the same Wi-Fi network.

    2. Join your Ompractice class.

    3. Swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen to open Control Center.

    4. Tap “Screen Mirroring” and select your Apple TV or AirPlay-compatible TV.

    5. Your screen will be mirrored on your TV.

3. Casting from Tablets:

  • Android Tablets:

    • Follow the same steps as for Android devices with Chromecast.

  • iPads:

    • Follow the same steps as for iOS devices with Apple TV or AirPlay-compatible TVs.

  • Kindle Fire:

    • While you can take Ompractice classes on a Kindle fire, we've not been able to test casting so far.

Additional Tips:

  • Make sure your device is charged or connected to a power source, because casting or mirroring can take up extra battery!

  • Position your device in a way that allows the instructor to see you clearly while you watch the class on your TV.

  • Use a stable Wi-Fi connection - if you have two speeds of Wi-Fi at home, make sure you are on the fast one!

  • An alternative: you can also join Ompractice from two devices (such as your phone and your laptop) if you make sure mute one and turn the volume off. (Please let the teacher know so they don't remove the second connection.)

Common Concerns:

  • Will I still be visible to the teacher? Yes, your device’s camera needs to stay on while in an Ompractice class, so you'll want to make it's positioned correctly to give the teacher a clear view.

  • What if I experience lag or connectivity issues? Generally, in order to cast to a TV, you'll want to make sure you have high-speed Wi-Fi (if you are on slow internet, you'll likely experience lag. If you have a laptop, consider using an Ethernet cable for a more stable connection.

  • Can I use a HDMI cable instead? Yup, connecting your device to your TV via HDMI is another option, although you will likely need an adaptor to do so. Connect the cable, switch your TV to the correct HDMI input, and your screen will be mirrored.

Enjoy your Ompractice classes on the big screen! If you have any questions or encounter any issues, our team is here to help!
